I signed up for the Surgical Technology program. Finished top of the class, got my CST card. They dont tell you that to actually get a job you have to know someone that will hire you as everyone demands at least one to two years of experience. Where you get that experience most of my classmates and myself have yet to find. You will not break into this field cold...period, if ya do then buy a lotto ticket as well cause you have defied the odds of reason. The majority of our instructors there were horrible,,,good techs, but when it came to teaching they had zero talent in that area...the first slap in the face The text book and written material were a freaking joke as well. The main text book they finally had to stop using because of all the technical errors in it, not to mention the grammatical errors at every turn. The exam review book they forced us to buy was five years old when there were far better and more up to date books available. When it cane to lab time to practice hands on they were so short staffed that you only got to do a case once every two weeks, the rest of the time you stood around scrubbed in in a freaking four hour torture session twice a week. Also the inadequacy of the labs didnt stop there. They trained us on all the outdated methods of doing procedures and virtually nothing recently modern. Our segment on laparoscopic surgery (about half of what you will actually be doing) lasted two days! Taught us almost nothing on stapling technique/equipment (75% of what you will be doing) showed some pics in the text was all. After we finished the classroom portion we had to wait ONE YEAR to start our externships!! Some people even longer. When you go to sign up and all through the program they tell you it may be two to four weeks for a site. They also misrepresented during the waiting period what was going on. They lied through their teeth to us basically. So here I sit today,,,a CST,, over 100 application in the bag and Im applying to Costco. So do yourself a favor.. if your thinking about being a Surgical Technologist...pick something else that is a reality as far as employment goes. This is a huge scam on the part of these private colleges. They're motive? $37,000 was what my program cost and Ill be lucky to get a job at Costco?? They turn out 3-4 classes a year per school on average. Now how many jobs are there in your area or any area for ST? Not that many and specially when everyone. I mean everyone demands at the least one to two years experience in a paid ST position (hospital preferred/required really). Good luck! look into Ultrasound tech...
Read moreThis is the first time that I have run across this page so I thought I would leave my opinion. My teacher was actually a very good teacher. She had high expectations of her student and she was a very particular grader. My problems started when It was time to interact with the career services department. I found out that the way they "help" you get a job is by helping you make sure your resume looks professional enough. A few months after I had graduated they had a job fair with some big name medical groups that I was not able to attend. When I asked my counselor for the names of the groups involved she said " Well, they are actually extern sites so it really would not be worth it" I could not believe she had said that. What I was hearing was that they were having this huge "job" fair that would only benefit the providers involved get free help for a 3 month period from all of their students that were completing their courses.
I should have know better, I had attended a medical secretary course in 1991 that was just as bad where placement was concerned. They offered life time placement but when I needed help finding another job they kept giving me the run around until I finally gave up.
It is pretty sad that these schools offer something that they are not able to provide. People go into their courses excited and hopeful only to be...
Read moreMy rating is on the process of joining the school, as I haven’t started the program yet. I was interested in the Vet Tech program so I requested info online. I received a call right away (which seems normal but I’ve reached out to other programs before and never received a call, and emails aren’t helpful when you have tons of questions like I do). Tania called me and we discussed why I was interested in the program and set up a meeting for a few days later. She told me to bring in any questions I had. At our meeting Tania had a PowerPoint for me that answered about 90% of the questions I had written down, and she was able to answer all the others or direct me to someone who could. Tania was warm and welcoming, but not pushy at all. She completely understand I needed to go home and discuss moving forward with my family and go over my finances. Tania then introduced me to Kristofer in the financial department, who was equally awesome. He broke down the costs for me and went over what student loans I was approved for. I have had no problem communicating with them for follow up questions and meetings, and I am very excited to start...
