Tugboat Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Citrus Heights

The tables are almost always sticky and dirty. Even if the table tops are clean, the sides have food caked in the crevices. Tonight I changed tables twice trying to find a clean one. Finally settled on the one all the way in the front, but had to cover the edge with napkins before I would touch the table at all. The food is good, but I don’t think I’m willing to endure the nastiness again, no matter how good the food. When I took napkins to cover the edge of the table, the looks I got the whole time from the lady behind the counter...well...you’d have thought I was trying to steal and she was trying to catch me at it. When we left my husband made the comment that she was really rude...which I hadn’t even noticed. On many occasions in the last year we would find it closed with a note on the door...or sometimes not even that. Anyway.....we probably won’t be going back again. And...I don’t expect it to remain open...

I must start off that I don't usually leave reviews, but my recent experience here at Tug Boat compelled me to leave one.

I had a terrible experience here. Secondly, I came through the door with my wife and baby and a couple didn't hold the door for us, ran outside while they saw I had my hands full. Later that same couple came in and went behind the counter, they must be owners, or workers right? Where is the care for their customers? The lady at the counter tapped the receipt insisting on tip same as another reviewer said. Then a couple days later I get food poisoning. The food was alright but this place is filthy. I have been to other Tugboat locations, and by far this was the absolute worst. When we paid for the food the cashier actually tapped the receipt insisting on the tip. While I have absolutely no problem tipping and I usually do at least 20% in a regular restaurant., I felt no need to tip when we had to get our own food from the counter to the table basically the cashier wanted a tip just for taking our order. Also the food was extremely greasy and by the time I got home I felt very nauseous and my stomach hurt for the rest of the day. Would not recommend this...
