It’s a community college, and better than most. It has more than adequate programs for those going to a 4-year school afterward or into a trade. However, most don’t seem to make it through the programs or do so successfully, so while it may seem as if you have a lot of competition, you actually don’t in the end. However, there were some major issues with CCC when I was a student there: #1: They rented out their classrooms and studios to third parties, regardless of whether the room is used by students or not. This is particular troublesome for a working student who needs to use the art studio, only to find out that the only open studio hours have been pre-empted by some lame community crafting class that is in the process of ruining all the equipment and setting off the fire alarms, and no: those people will NOT share the room with you, and the administration will not help you, the student. Also, for some reason, they washed all the furniture in bleach, so you have make sure you don’t wear any nice clothes or lay your artwork directly on the tables. #2: I think the faculty does not understand non-traditional students or post-bacc students who may be taking a new career direction. I especially found the head of the early childhood program (if she is still there - it’s the woman who hasn’t had a haircut since 1972) relentlessly condescending, even to people who are otherwise her peers, or in some respects, her superiors, simply because they happen to be taking a class at the local community college. This tells you what the faculty actually thinks of their students in general and the people who attend CCC, even though in the grand scheme of things, they’re small potatoes in the world of academia themselves. But...if you want a good two-year foundation, avoid mixing with the slackers, and don’t take your instructors too seriously, you’ll do okay and for a good price, too. Just don’t go to any of the plays; they’re a confusing mix of vaudeville hamming , incongruent accents, and reaching without really grasping. At first, you may think it’s just theater of the absurd season after season, but it’s actually...
Read moreClasses haven't even started yet and things have already been such a headache! The process of enrolling and getting things in order is far different from when I first attended. Technology is supposed to improve things I get but, there are so many "apps" that you are supposed to sign into to figure out what you are supposed to be doing and or what you might need. I cant even log into the main my Cayuga page majority of the time because the authenticator app that you need to get a code from when you log in doesn't even work half of the time so then you have to contact the help desk to reset everything all over again! And talking to anyone to get help is almost a joke ! The answer I get the most is "it should all be in the app" great isn't it when you cant even access things half of the time?! Oh and classes are all over the place not much at the college itself it seems. This is going to be a very trying time I...
Read moreI attempted to take a couple of pre-regs for another degree and thought this would be a good option. After a two week interaction with Cayuga where they could not even locate my account they assigned (even with me providing their assigned username) I had to withdraw so that I could take the classes elsewhere. Ten months later, I receive a bill for tuition and am told that I am responsible for the balance. I am forced to fill out an "appeal for refund" and establish a "mycayuga" account for an institution who could not accept my money at the time? No one will speak by phone. No one (apparently) reads my emails as I am providing documentation to support my statements.
tl,dr: Do not attempt to take classes here online unless you are forced to do so. There are so many student friendly...
