My mom, Natalie Haas lived on 3rd floor Skalet Pavilion for over 3 years. I cannot begin to say more about the care, friendship, love and support that my mom and my family received during this time. My mom made so many friends and truly loved the nurses, doctors, recreation heroes, the staff that made sure her room was clean and fresh and the all the other support staff that visited her regularly. Natalie participated in all the activities. She looked forward to the weekly games of Pokeno and Bingo. She loved listening to the wide variety of music programs held multiple times during the week. She designed wonderful works of art during the Art Therapy Programs. She helped plant the gardens. She loved her “food” and all the wonderful people from the dietary department. I know how much her friends will miss her, especially Nancy and Pearl. Her final days of her life came very abruptly to an end. I am glad she didn’t suffer but I was out of the country at the time. How do I ever begin to thank the 3rd floor nurses (Joan, Ronnie, Norma, Angelica...) , Sharise Washington- her Registered Nurse Practitioner who became my true friend as well as her medical provider, Dr Tio- who guided me through her medical care this last year, Carrie Deppong- United Hebrew's recreation director who's enthusiasm and love for life is contagious, Delma Sansone- her social worker who zoomed her funeral ceremony for her friends who could not attend and the entire staff that kept in touch with me and got me through one of the most difficult times in my life? Thank you Tarin Metz and George Moffa who greeted me every time I walked in the front door with a smile and always showed respect for the residents and my family members that visited her. Please show this letter to all her family at United Hebrew. Let them know that their hard work and care matters. Let them know how they are appreciated. Thank you all.

The therapy is suboptimal. It is intermittant, often cancelled, and is terminated too early. The doctor we had complained and tried to have therapy reassigned for my relative when it ended too early, and his orders were IGNORED. The therapists are POORLY trained, and even after my doctor and I complained that my mother was not being walked properly, the problems continued. It is abysmal.

You will NEVER receive your own clothes back from laundry and NOTHING can be done about it.

The dietician does not communicate with nursing staff, so my Mom rarely got what she was supposed to have to eat due to her medical issues. And the food is SALTY SALTY SALTY. It is outrageous. MANY complain but NOTHING changes. NO ONE CARES.

And Grace Arone can keep her insincere, broken record response that she belches out to everyone about "we pride ourselves on giving our residents top quality care and welcome the opportunity to address your specific concerns" because it is a total crock of cow flops. She is full of hot air and NEVER fixes ANYTHING. She is an incompetent twit to talks out both sides of her face.

Also, my Mom was forced to wait when she needed to use the toilet because there were "not enough staff members to help everyone" as we were told on several occassions. Prepare to lose your dignity when it comes to needing help with bathroom issues. My mother was chastised with "you complained you needed to go and THAT is all you made???"

One day these staff members will be the patients needing help only it will be too late for them to learn the important lessons they should have learned BEFORE working in a supposed "top-of-the-line" nursing facility for which we pay every last dime we have.

And Nurse Presto was another royal disappointment. When I told her of my concerns about the incompetent care my mother was receiving she listened to everything I said, and then she did NOTHING to remedy the problems. NOTHING. She acted like she understood but when I told her that the same mistakes were being made she only responded with a dismissive "we do the best we can."

I would not wish such treatment on my worst enemy. When basic human dignity is ignored, and you cannot trust staff members to properly care for loved ones 24/7 (elderly patients are just as needy on weekends and holidays!!!!) then SOMETHING is...

So my mother was being treated at the United Hebrew nursing home on Pelham road after suffering a fall at home. Several times I reached out to try to get in contact with the administration office and apparently i kept getting a voicemail. After having several concerns i finally said enough was enough. I drove down into New Rochelle from staten Island to see if I could speak to someone. entering the building I was greeted by a reception personal who had ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE AS HOW HE COULD HELP ME. (Lack of training if you ask me)He informed me that he was just a over night guard and new to the job. I informed him that I have been trying to get ahold of an administrator for several days and was not successful. The gentleman ask me to have my tempature taken and to have a seat. As I waited in the lobby I began to become more and more frustrated as people were walking around and carrying on with personal conversations. As I anxiously waited to speak with someone, I decided to call and try again to reach someone who may possibly help me. To my surprise after being transferred i heard the phone ring in a neighboring office near where I was sitting. As I quickly stood up to see whom will pickup the phone I witnessed that a dirty blonde hair lady in the office had forward me to voicemail as she chatted on a cell phone smiling and giggling. As I began to become even more frustrated due to the smell of cigarette in the lobby people were walking around as if they had nothing to do. Long story short after 45 minutes of waiting to speak to someone I soon realized that the only thing that "Grace" and the dirty blonde hair lady was concerned with was fassion, loosing weight, watches ,and makeup. The dirty blonde was thanking a lady by the name of GRACE. (Someone who was overly dressed to be working in a nursing home, if you ask me. Roughly after waiting for nearly an entire hour I was finally quite frankly fedup and couldn't endure the stench of cigarette. 2 days later my mother had to go back to the hospital with no return to the center. United Hebrew paints a good picture but administration seem to be more concerned about fashion and looks then they are of there patients. And family members need. If you love yourfamily...

I waited several months to post this review to see if my anger subsided, but my dad and I were recently talking about his stay here and it upset me all over again. I feel for the nurses and some of the aides and the social worker who really are kind and doing their best, but this place is overall ABYSMAL. My father is 90 years old and came here for rehab. I’ve never seen him so depressed in my life, although he thankfully rebounded after his release. The place is so understaffed that it can take an hour or more just for them to respond to the button. During that time, he was often immobilized, unable even to sit up or turn off the light, but some of the aides yelled at him when he would complain. He once called me on the verge of tears because he needed water and no one would respond. I called the desk three times over the span of 20 minutes, and the nurse had the nerve to yell at me and hang up on me…for requesting that someone bring my father water. I finally threatened to call the police, and only then did he get his water. I complained and spoke to someone all the way at the top of the company, but it only helped in the short-term. I also often found that his catheter bag was full and on the verge of bursting. I don’t know what they pay, but I do know that some of the staff members there should never be allowed to work with the public, let alone the sick and vulnerable. The fact that they haven’t been fired tells me that they must not pay well enough to attract decent staff. I’m sure lots of other homes are like this, but I still feel I need to be honest so as to help others make an informed decision or to get the attention of management. As far as I understand, this place is under new management and it’s very much about the financial bottom line, which only ever leads to worse care. What scares me is that they also do dementia care, and I fear for those who are unable to express themselves or remember how they were treated. This place was...
