Honestly, this would have been infinitely more interesting had they simply given each table their own game of “Clue” to play. I cannot believe all the good reviews. Maybe this was an off night? but the “cast” consisted of only three people, plus members of the audience who paid an extra $50 just to be made to stand up and read aloud or deliver a bad line. I would be most disappointed if I had paid extra for the “experience” of being part of the story. I almost couldn’t type that with a straight face. The actors were really BAD. The detectives were not even slightly believable; I think middle school kids could have done a better job because the writing was really juvenile and some of the jokes were in poor taste. Especially considering that there were older people and two CHILDREN in the room. I got to listen to them argue with one another about soda pop for far too long while we waited nearly a quarter of an hour in an unnecessary line to get in. The hold up in the line was because people stood at the table right inside the door thinking up a fake name for their name tags, when those could have been waiting at the table for hours, like our wilted salads clearly had been. We were instructed to “interrogate” one another with such unoriginal questions as what superpower we would choose. They wanted us to interact with one another in a forced manner that lent nothing to the evening at all. Lame!
As for the story... seriously, what story? Also, who even cares? It is never revealed why we are in this dining room, where this is supposed to take place and we never get to know any of the players, including the woman who came out of the kitchen/food service area claiming to have been stabbed and then took five minutes of making noise to lay down on the ground - so it really doesn’t matter. We don’t care. The clues consisted of laminated sheets that they could have just given us at the beginning of the night so we could speculate and actually eat our disappointing dinner instead of trying to read them AND pay attention to the detective actors, because there was nothing worth paying attention to and literally nothing the detectives could or would add. The detectives told us repeatedly that the only clues they had to give us were the laminated cards, so they could have just given us the cards from the start and spared us the miserable “show”. Dinner was actually pretty tasty, but it was basically like a citrusy canned soup sauce over a chicken breast and rice, some broccolini and salads that had obviously been plated hours before the event, plus some rolls.
I had always wanted to do a murder mystery dinner and chose this one because the reviews claimed this was so funny and interesting. This was none of those things. Even the props were ridiculous (one detective had tiny handcuffs that would maybe fit a cat). I still have no idea who did it, because right at 9:05 my liquor delivery from Drizly arrived at the front desk and I had to leave to go show my ID for that, fortunately I honestly could not care less who did the murders or why. I had to have three double whiskeys just to make this evening remotely entertaining. If I had not gotten a Groupon and had paid full price for this, I would feel resentful because the entire show was insulting to our intelligence, the room was much too hot and the drinks were overpriced. We know this from my husband having to get me a drink from the hotel bar downstairs when the bar in the room was unattended for around 10 minutes. I would not recommend...
