Oil Change at Valvoline Sent My Car to the Mechanic -My boyfriend took my 2021 vehicle into Valvoline on a Thursday at 6pm. To make the oil change faster, they tried to evacuate the oil via the dipstick tube. My boyfriend watched as the technician at Valvoline man-handled the tube, getting it stuck. In their attempts to dislodge it, they applied so much force that they shook the car until the tube broke, leaving part of it broke off in the oil pan and the other part stuck in the dipstick tube. A technician even mentioned this wasn’t the first time this had happened but it was the first time they couldn’t get it unstuck and had broke in two.
The Valvoline staff then informed my boyfriend of the situation and suggested he drive the car to a mechanic. Thankfully, my boyfriend is knowledgeable about cars and knew this could cause significant damage. Despite this, Valvoline refused to tow the car. He spoke with the area manager, who claimed he would arrive in an hour, but never did. During the wait, they repeatedly pressured my boyfriend to drive the car away.
By 8:40pm, (they close at 7) the area manager still hadn't shown up, and we believe he never intended to. The store manager finally agreed to tow so my boyfriend arranged it, and the car was taken to a mechanic. I had to find alternative transportation for 4 days, almost 5, and missed several important commitments over the weekend. Valvoline offered no rental car as it took an act of congress to even get a tow.
On Monday, the situation was further complicated when the store manager, Daniel, entered the claim number incorrectly, causing another delay. Throughout this phone call, Daniel repeatedly called me "sweetie", which I found unprofessional and disrespectful, especially given the circumstances.
No one from Valvoline contacted me directly, as the owner, to apologize until I called to rush my car back on day 5 of not having it. This was extremely disappointing as Valvoline was my go-to place for oil changes for years. After this experience, I will...

They have the incredibly high standards that Valvoline requires and they were so kind and so professional; Valvoline has spoiled me so I CAN'T go anywhere else and I'm thrilled!
Valvoline is the only place I go for oil changes++ because the employees are always very kind and knowledgeable; they don't try to upsell me; if it's something they can show me, like my air filter, they always do so; they offer more services than I realized, I just had my tires rotated on my last visit and I had no idea that they did that and was planning to go to a tire shop to get that done. They are about 45mins from my house, which is in BFE/the sticks, but I don't care - they always make me feel safe and I am confident in their competence. The only time I did NOT go to Valvoline was when I was driving from Commiefornia to Oklahoma two years ago and that's because my oil looked nasty and I have a 2020 Chevy Suburban that's new to me and so I had my oil changed by the closest place in El Paso, TX.
You will not be sorry if you use Valvoline, they are a 10/10 star company who treats their customers very well.

Wife took my truck in for an oil change. She told me the manager was handling my truck personally because of bad experiences I've had else where. Someone tells my wife engine's air filter needs changed. She called me, and I said, no, let me look first. Of course the filter looks almost brand new when I get home and look at it. So I blew it out with air and bam, perfectly new looking. The shop could've done this but didn't. Just another crooked car shop trying to up sell for parts and labor you don't actually need.
Edit in Response to Owner: Huh? So a manufacturer's recommendation precludes any use of common sense and ethical business practices? Any mechanic can see that the filter doesn't need to be changed. The recommendation was at best incompetence and at worst intentionally trying to upsell. Either way, no one should hire an incompetent and/or dishonest shop.
TLDR: *BUYER BEWARE!! This shop not only tries to upsell and rip off it's customers, the management/owner tries to justify it by claiming to blindly follow all manufacturer recommendations with no apparent common sense or honesty towards its...
