I don't make a habit of lambasting businesses for poor service, but it's been 24 hours and I am still fuming. I wish I'd never taken my kids to this place.
Normally, I just buzz my kids' hair at home. Half-inch setting, all around, only going down to the skin around the ears for lack of a better option. Easy. It looks just fine.
This year, my oldest felt a half-inch was too short. He asked for a professional cut so he could have it longer. Okay. I booked appointments for both of my kids to have a three-quarters inch buzz at this establishment.
Reader: They stenciled my kids' hair. I never asked for a "line-up," I never asked them to "clean up" the buzz. They shaved down to the skin and my youngest has a minor wound where the clippers "bit" the back of his neck.
A stencil looks totally fine for a fade, or a short buzz. This was three-quarters inch length and did not look fine. It looked like a bad mix between a bowl cut and a safety helmet. My oldest was asking for a hat on the drive home before I said anything about it.
After confirming with my wife and other family members that it looked as bad as we feared, the least-terrible option available to me was to re-buzz their hair at one-eighth of an inch. It was VERY short but at least the "safety helmet" stencil would quickly disappear as it grew back in.
I implore you, DO NOT take your kids to this establishment unless you want a stencil. They never even asked me. I am never giving this place my business again.
EDIT: I am not seeing a way to reply directly to the response, so I will write it here. I clearly communicated to the barbers that I usually buzz my kids' hair at home. I would hazard a guess that 99% of the clientele do not ask for a three-quarters inch length buzz while having straight, fine hair. That a "shape-up" would look terrible with this hair length and this hair texture was, in my opinion, an entirely foreseeable problem that should have been clearly communicated and clarified with me well in advance. In terms of remedial action, there is no way to replace the hair that the "shape-up" shaved off, and as I mentioned in my review, the only viable "fix" was to buzz the remaining hair down to one-eighths of an inch. Let my review and experience serve as a warning to all parents: They will "shape-up" your child's hair without asking you unless you already know to explicitly verbally prohibit them...

Read moreI chose to bring my son to Polished after reading many reviews and getting lots of recommendations. Boy was that a mistake.
We showed the barber a reference photo.(ive attached it here) It was basically tapering around the ears and texture to the top and back. I guess my mistake for calling it the modern mullet. My son has very long hair. The barber proceeds to take the 2 clipper all the way up the sides to the very top of his head. Then he scissored the top but took soo much off and left it unblended. It looks like a landing strip on the top of his head. He seemed very manic. Cutting very willy nilly. He ask kept talking about therapy and his divorce. Mind you, my son is 11. It was very uncomfortable. My son is very self conscious about his forehead. He asked to keep the front past his eyebrows. This barber cut his front way shorter than we asked. And cut it straight across. He left the back soo long and straight after i asked for texture. I ended up clipper cutting the back myself. Like I said, my son is 11 and just starting middle school. He is afraid to go to school tomorrow. We have been dealing with tons of tears since we left the shop. I cant believe any joe blow can be a barber now. Its very frightening. Steer clear of this place! Or you might end up looking - as the kids...
