NY Gyro & Grill — Restaurant in Claymont

Last night I went to NY Gyro & Grill because my son had dinner there earlier in the evening. He was telling me how great the food was. He had take-out. My wife and I decided to give it a try. First the main part of the business is most likely take-out but they have a hand full of tables. We decided to sit and eat. After taking a few minutes, I chose the lamb and chicken over rice and my wife had lamb and chicken gyro. You can get any vegetable toppings you want (I think at no extra cost). I normally don't like tzatziki sauce but the owner said "you'll be making a mistake" so I got it on the side and he was 100% correct! That sauce ROCKED! Since we both are both good home cooks we have high standards when we're eating out. The food was a 10 out of 10!! It was just great food! As we ate, I got to talking to the two owners about all of the food. They explained they make everything for scratch including all the sauces except the BBQ sauce. These are just two easy going guys who are proud of what they are doing. Next time we're are going to try the shish kebab that they recommended. I would say this, it's not a fine dinning restaurant but both our meals together cost under $20. I don't need a fancy table I just want great food and NY Gyro & Grill delivered in a big way. I used to order here since they opened without any problem. This is the second time they wasted my time. I placed an order like usual and was told 20 mins. When I get there they said they forgot about my order cause they got a bigger order. They told me to wait another 25 mins cause they didn’t even put the skewers on the grill yet, UNBELIEVABLE!!!! What a waste of my time!!! They didn’t care at all and they move on to the next…. Why tell the customer on the phone to come in 20 mins to pick food when you know that is not true?! If busy tell customer that you are, don’t waste their time driving all the way to your store to tell them that you forgot about their order? Such a selfish and inconsiderate behavior!!!! Mind you the store was not busy at all!!!! This place offered an excellent service in the beginning now the true face is coming out…. Will never allow this place to waste anymore of my time & will never order from this place again. I gave them the second chance but unfortunately they don’t...

I moved into town shortly after their grand opening but never stopped in. Today I craved gyro and decided I wanted to come here and try it out. I should not have waited so long, the food was amazing. The man behind the counter was kind and prompt, and the smells made me excited to eat. I ordered a lamb gyro on flatbread and it did not disappoint. Packed with food, everything was fresh and delicious. I had high hopes when I saw the reviews and knew I needed to share my own; support this business! Kind people, great food, top quality ingredients, and generous portions. I will be returning to try more!
