The Delaware Valley area is definitely a crowded market when it comes to cheesesteaks. Yes, there are the tourist trap locations but some of the best cheesesteaks come from more local establishments and Claymont Steak Shop is one of those places. They have a couple locations in Delaware, but it feels very much like a neighborhood restaurant. The decor is simple, but I like the feel that his is a neighborhood restaurant. There's a cooler with grab-and-go desserts and chips, locals get takeout and you can watch some sports while you're waiting. The service here is pretty good though you don't quite get the full restaurant service as ordering is down either via the counter or on a self-serve kiosk but they do make sure you get your food nice and fresh and the service staff is friendly. Yes, Claymont STEAK Shop serves cheesesteaks, but they have such a diverse menu there's plenty of variety. They serve pizzas, grinders, burgers, stromboli, there's a good variety of items to choose from. They also have baskets of fries and you can even get Old Bay fries, too. One of the things I really like is that you can customize your cheesesteaks; you don't have to be bound to the "Cheeze Whiz wit" routine and have provolone as your cheese or add peppers. While I cannot say these are the best cheesesteaks in the world, but Claymont's are really good. They come in three to four sizes and they stuff those steak rolls with plenty of beef (or chicken, they have chicken cheesesteaks, too) and whatever toppings or cheese you like. The beef is tender and you get a good mouthful of flavor and they are filling. Their pizzas are also pretty tasty as well. They are baked well and have a good selection of toppings. The breadsticks are pretty decent as well and they will wrap them in foil to make sure they are nice and hot and ready for you to enjoy. While Claymont might not be known cross-country for their cheesesteaks, this is definitely a great neighborhood restaurant to stop at for a cheesesteak...or a pizza.

Food was absolutely dreadful. I ordered a cheesesteak in which the roll was burnt and the cheese wasn’t all of the way melted, boneless wings were soggy. The only good thing was the fries which weren’t even all of that. I ordered a little bit before closing time so I couldn’t call back to let them know about the food. When I called not too long ago the manager act like I was lying about my food being nasty. Overall, I didn’t like her attitude and I didn't feel like she properly accommodated me. Most likely it’s because she can hear that I’m black. If I was a Karen, I’m pretty sure the situation would have went a whole lot different. She did offer me a 10% discount on my next order like I’ll ever be ordering from there again lol. NEVER AGAIN!

Needed a quick bite to eat so we decided to do Claymont Steak Shop. After being told that a large and small cheesesteak would be almost $30, I could not contain myself. Definitely does not taste like it’s worth $30. My wife and I have decided to never go to Claymont Steak Shop again due their extremely high food prices that do not correlate with the quality or taste of their food. Lucy’s will be our go to in a bind 🤷🏿‍♂️ Update 3/9/24 Shame on us for getting Claymont Steak Sop again. A friend gave us a DoorDash gift card and we said why not. Ordered a salad, 2 cheese steaks, some wings, and some fries. Total came to over $80. The food was terrible. Salads don’t taste like that 🤮

It has NOW BEEN A YEAR and I am STILL WAITING TO HEAR FROM CLAYMONT STEAKS WITH AN APOLOGY, AS THEY PROMISED FOR GIVING AWAY MY ORDER THAT I PAID FOR TO ANOTHER CUSTOMER. They still send me discount coupons as if I would EVER GO BACK - STAY AWAY, THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS.

AMAZING TO ME - it has been since OCT and NO WORD FROM ABOUT MY ORDER THAT THEY GAVE TO SOMEONE ELSE AND THEN HASTILY MESSED UP(giving me a SMALL rather than a large cheese steak which I had paid for). Even though I had been asked by MANAGEMENT to write to them directly which I did. Obviously they do NOT care about losing a good customer.

Been 10 days since I wrote the owner PERSONALLY at their request (on 10/24) - never heard word 1. NO APOLOGY, NO EMAIL, NO NOTHING. So this past weekend when we decided we wanted to do sandwiches, we went to Capriotti's on Concord Pike (we were going to try Casapulla's but there were NO car in the lot, sign of bad service/food) SAD that Claymont Steaks has lost loyal customers that have been with them for years.

UPDATE - 10/24 - I wrote to info@claymontsteakshop.com 4 days ago, advising of my experience at the request of the owner - never heard anything back.

UPDATE - been two days NEVER HEARD ANYTHING BACK FROM CLAYMONT STEAKS since I posted about my experience on 9/22 of having MY order given to someone else and instead of the large cheese steak ordered, I was provided a SMALL. Guess they have so much business they don't care about mine.

I used to be Claymont Steaks biggest fan, till about 3 weeks ago. I ordered a large cheese steak, paying for extra/extra steak and cheese. When I arrived was told my order was ready and someone went into the back to get it, he came out and said something to a lady behind the counter, who replied "NO that is Patricia Booth" and pointed to me. Apparently my order had been given to someone else. The guy who originally waited on me rushed back to the kitchen and hastily had an order thrown together. When I got home, the roll was a SMALL at best(I have ordered both large and small and KNOW the difference in the size of the rolls, there was NO extra steak, NO extra cheese(which I paid for-when they put extra on the sandwiches you can't close them). Had I not had another personal issue come up, I would have taken back the whole thing but didn"t have time. I did fill out their survey, figuring they would get back to a loyal customer (mistakes happen) but NOTHIHG, dead silence - so I will be looking for another...

Order accuracy 🌟🌟🌟⭐ Delivery time 🌟🌟🌟⭐ Food Quality🌟🌟🌟🌟 Customer service 🌟🌟⭐⭐ I always order my wings and burgers from this place. Update :After a simple misunderstanding the quality of their customer service in my opinion has dropped.

TL;DR:The manager on duty was completely disrespectful and aggressive over a misunderstanding that I called to apologize for. I use to order frequently and tip as often as possible but they have lost my business. Don't take your personal stress out on customers.

The long of it all: I ordered food for later considering I wouldn't be home to cook. The people who were supposed to receive my food were on the second floor and did not hear someone knocking on the door. Instead of ringing the doorbell like a they usually do they called my phone (Again, I myself was at work and could not answer). I got in contact with one of the drivers involved and apologized for the situation and asked what to do next. He was very patent and kind. After he explained what they did on thier end I contacted the store the next day to apologize and ask for my money back. What I got was unnecessary attitude in response. The first woman to answer the phone wasn't the issue. The second woman however who was rude, aggressive in tone argumemtative and proceeded to talk over me. I started to explain what happened and before I could even apologize she went on and on about "It was a rough night yesterday and I sent two of my drivers if you aren't going to be home leave a different number. I already refunded your money. I had to send two of my drivers and called you twice" If you are having a bad day that's one thing. I will not be returning or recomending this specific place considering her attitude and disrespect to a frequent, none aggressive customer over a situation that has never happened before out of the entirety of me buying from them. If that is your response over the situation is was uncalled for. I didn't call to argue I called to clarify and apologize. You know who you are and I hope you understand that it wasn't okay....
