My husband was a member primarily for the englewood location. Joined after touring the facility. He really liked the cardio theater room. Shortly after joining he was on a treadmill and the belt slipped nearly throwing him off. All of the other treadmills in that room were showing errors on the screen. Either a motor error or an emergency stop error. He reported it to management and they told him that later in the year (2018) all of the equipment in that gym would be replaced with new equipment and the whole place would be modernized. Thats what his 1/1/18 maintenance fee was for. He went several days a week for a few months and on any given day there would only be 1-2 treadmills in that room fuctioning and if you speed up to jogging speed the belts still slipped, not only is it just bad taste to leave them in there but its also dangerous for members to use them. He saw lots of other members go in there and express disatisfaction as well but nothing regarding the condition of that equipment changed so he started going someplace else. Being contract bound (and paying for it) he still went in there on occasion to see if anything was done. in may-june-july they brought in used not “new” equipment from another gym but none of those treadmills in the cardio theater were replaced so he asked about them and was told “its a challenge to move equipment in/out of that room but they would get to it” Fast forward to october, theres been no sign of any new equipment so in december he sent a letter asking to cancel his membership and got a confirmation. Then he received a call in january telling him he owed a maintenance fee! They assessed on his account to maintain the gym. When he argued that he cancelled his membership due to a lack of maintenance and did not agree with the charge, they informed him that an annual fee was in the contract, he acknowledged it was and said maintaining equipment was too but that was not done. Then asked if they can see details from previous calls and they said yes so he asked if they could see a call from sept when he called and complained of poor equipment condition and she said yes. but it does not count because he did not send it in writing. he said, ok but writing or not, you have a record of a lack of maintenance reported from sept and your trying to force me to pay a maintenance fee, for an upcoming year in which i have no membership because i cancelled it over lack of maintenance, then He asked who to speak to in order to resolve this, they said to call the gym. He did and the gym told him they dont handle it and to call back billing and ask to speak to corporate. When he called billing back the same lady he spoke to earlier at billing (name witheld) refused to connect him to corporate and told him she spoke to someone in corporate and that if he did not pay the maintenance fee they were forwarding the bill to collections. So the maintenance is terrible, they have dangerous equipment that for over a year of wasnt replace because “its hard” and theres no real customer service if you have a problem. Whoever runs the business hides behind their billing department. If your reading this, please learn from my experience and save yourself the hassle. If just one person listens then i will have not wasted my time writing...
Read moreThis whole business is an utter SCAM!!! AVOID!!! Equipment in constant disrepair, the few repairs that do happen take months. Stuff broken down for over 15 months with zero progress! Cleaning of the machines after each use is never enforced, no gym bags on the floor also never enforced. Just generally poor cleanliness. COVID precautions mostly ignored, even by most employees. And customer service is the absolute WORST I've ever experienced in my 43 years. After trying to cancel my membership due to all the issues above that were completely ignored, I had to try dealing with their financial system... which is a completely separate company, so good luck getting anything done about one OR the other. Literally, it's the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing! The financial end of things was even worse, if that's even possible. They would call constantly while I was at work, so couldn't answer my phone. I'd try to call back on my lunch, and be sent to voicemail. Tag, back and forth for MONTHS! After I FINALLY got through to a real person, they said they couldn't do anything about the shoddy, gross, and broken down gym issues... they were just there to collect the bills. But oh, they promised to send me an email link for whoever I could talk to about this.... never got that email or any other way to resolve the issues. So finally, now I'm in collections with them bc I stopped the payments due to their breach of contract in not maintaining a safe, working, clean, and healthy workout environment for clients like myself. So I started making calls, asking to speak to the manager to try to resolve it all. I left multiple messages over multiple weeks.... which were UTTERLY ignored. Today, one of the employees even admitted to my face that I was being ignored. I've been hung up on twice by them, my calls ignored after being hung up on and sent to voicemail... not that I expect those to be returned either. When I showed up asking to speak to the manager today because of the disrespect and ignored calls, they threatened to call the cops on me. And so they did even though I left. But the best part: the cop agrees with me, and will go back with me on Monday (so I'm not trespassing, with police presence), as I once again demand to speak with the manager about this. If it still fails to get me to a satisfactory resolution, you can bet your life savings this is going to court. I've been beyond patient in trying to solve this without causing bigger issues, despite my anger and frustration. But being ignored and disrespected is the final straw. This business absolutely needs to be shut down for the way they run things and treat people. It's outrageous. There's actually far more to this story than I have room for here, like the bold faced lies about the manager just supposedly not being there when I asked to talk to them.... but I have proof they were. It's...
Read moreYou find yourself in the review section because you're trying to compare gyms. As a current member of the YMCA here is why I'm switching to everybody fitness. First and foremost it's cheaper than the Y, and offers the same if not more qualities. The main thing holding me back was a bad review about the childcare having bed bugs. Well after inspecting the childcare area out and being shown the measures they take to avoid situations like that from even occurring; the cleanliness of the daycare is not an issue at all and it's pleasant. The free weight area is honestly what sold me. It's the biggest one you will find out of any gyms, and it's clean. People are respectful of personal space, and as a woman in a gym that means a lot. Also, you don't have to wait to use equipment or weights even at the peak hours. That's another huge aspect that sold me. At the Y it's always slammed and you have to wait and it hinders your workout pump. They offer a variety of evening classes and compared to the Y that's another key selling point for me. The majority of the Y's classes are during early morning and early afternoon hours while most people are at work. Great for some but not for me. So I like that EF offers a variety of evening classes. The movie cardio room is neat, there's so many private areas to workout that if you are someone who doesn't like being around people working out this place definitely caters to that. Upstairs in the track area there are little cut outs you can hangout in and do weights, battle ropes, etc. Other perks are the pool area, tanning, and the room they hold classes in. It's like a never ending maze of different workout opportunities. Planet fitness is the cheapest you will find, yes... However, they don't have childcare, you have to dress like a nun, and if you even breathe too loud they "lunk" you. Obnoxious. If you want a gym you can wear a cut off shirt at and get a good workout in, this is the place. Yes the contract Is lengthy but in my opinion it just makes you in a deeper relationship with working out. If you're paying for it you might as...
