Extremely unprofessional; Refused to honor deal;
My Dad and I came here on the Friday before labor day to see a Hyundai Sante Fe that was listed on KSL for ~$9,775. We found a Santa Fe in the lot and were checking if we had found the right car when a man wearing ratty shorts and a threadbare shirt who started asking us questions about the car we were looking at. He was particularly interested in what the price was (We said we saw it online at around $9.7k). I thought we were talking to another curious customer. It was only when he got the keys that I realized we were talking to a salesman.
He gave us space, which I appreciated. We were learned the car at been at the lot for 3 weeks, even though the KSL listing was only a few hours old. We test drove the car and liked it. However we were slightly concerned that the clock in the car was wrong (battery unplugged to clear check engine?) and the car had been fitted to tow big loads it wasn't rated for. We sat down in the folding chairs at the sales desk and talked price. He gave the final price, including taxes and fees, as just under $11k. I asked if he could get the final price down under $10k. The salesman called the owner, told him he was at the computer getting the final price, and explained the deal. I could hear the owner say something like "can you get them to do $10500 out the door?"
I agreed to the final price, but needed to talk to my bank and that I wanted to have an independent mechanic check out the car. I learned the salesman was named Kirk when I asked for his number. We called the Kirk from the bank and he said he could take $9500 cash and put $1000 on a credit card. We said we would be back for it tomorrow.
Saturday my parents and I returned for the car. My Mom and I test drove the car down to the bank to withdraw $9500 while Dad stayed behind and try to find a mechanic. Kirk knew we were getting the money. Dad couldn't find a mechanic to see us that day, so Kirk offered to hold the car if we put down a cash deposit. My parents chatted with Kirk as I went to call a few other mechanics. I was deadset on buying the car that day but I will not buy a used car until it's been checked out. I thought everything would be fine. I wanted to do the inspection and purchase that day, but agreed to put down the deposit when I couldn't work it out.
Kirk wouldn't take the deposit without the owner there. We went to lunch while we waited. On our way back when we got a call from Kirk saying that the out-the-door price that we had agreed upon was "a mistake" and that the LIST price for the vehicle was now $10,500 - not the $9.7k that it was actually listed at. This was nonsense since we had already negotiated and watched Kirk calculate taxes/fees and call the owner.
My dad called back to talk to the owner. He said the owner claimed that he would "lose $1000" if he sold the car to us at our agreed price (which was only a $400 discount under list price). The insulting owner claimed we weren't serious about buying the car even though we were there CASH IN HAND. The owner, also offensively said that, serious buyers put down the deposit before leaving... even though weren't allowed to. But the owner was MOST concerned that we wanted a mechanic to inspect the Santa Fe - he wouldn't let it go. This is ABSURDLY SUSPICIOUS.
I truly think they are hiding a problem with the car. The bogus price issue felt like a lie to make the deal fall through and prevent a fair inspection. They said the car had already passed inspections, but I am suspicious that those test were probably fraudulent - otherwise why was he so upset?
The car is now listed $10,495. This is ~$750 higher than the original price... which is less than the $1,000 the owner claimed he would lose if he honored our deal. I think that price was bait and will go back down when the double-dealing owner realizes that my literal pile of cash and I will never be returning to his tiny, dirty lot of...
Read moreWell, here I sit still waiting for a call back from Jeremy. He asked me to remove my last review because it included a " personal jab" at one of his family members. I did. I thought we had an agreement that after HIS family holiday which ended on the 30th, I would recieve a call. See, it was I who called to apologize for our last conversation in his dealership. Me, the customer. Here are the facts. If you're having a bad day, regardless at what level and are a business owner, don't go to work if it will affect your customers. Period. I didn't walk out of Jeremy's office, I was told he would not help me nor would he anwser the three questions I had written down on a piece of paper which were: oil black and below level? Water in front passenger side. Gate won't open, do you know how? Jeremy was pleasent when I called and offered to glue my sunroof in to prevent the leak? Is that where its coming from? When I left Jeremy's office because he refused to help me after asking him to have a productive conversation, I figured that would be that. I bought a lemon. Typical used car. But according to Jeremy's website, I felt my service level and experience should have at minimum been so much more. After writing my initial review which included personal information provided to me by Jeremy, I called to apologize and wanted to reach a common ground as honestly, all we had in common was this car and I WAS the customer. After being told that the salesmen had lied to myself and my husband and was no longer employed Jeremy again agreed to "glue my sunroof" to seal it. That certain cars that come into the lot, "they just don't do things to because its not profitable". That "everyone knows thT Land Rovers are money puts and full of problems" We purchased our car at night. Black duct tape is used to hold the trim on the front window, the drivers door.... (Anyone seen Miltilda?) Ok....In my last review I ended it with, "Wishing you a Merry Christmas" you don't see it because he asked me to erase it. What I meant by it was, I didn't go to a car lot offering everything that they claim to offer on their website expecting that 2 weeks after buying my superior automobile (used or otherwise) that I'd have a front seat full of water or have to dump $1000.00 getting the tailgate fixed. I also didn't expect that I, the CUSTOMER would have to be making a call to follow up on something that was promised to me buy the owner. I'm the customer. Or was, I suppose. Out of site, out of mind. I'll chalk this up to my own negligence of not reading the reviews. We had a great Christmas, just a little shy of $1000.00 (which is ALOT to most people) and I have a slouch bucket of a car because it wasen't "profitable" for Westgate to duct tape it or glue it together before I bought it. And Jeremy, if you have a question about this, contact my husband. Remember when you asked me if we purchased your "extended warrenty" and I asked you to look it up for me? What was your response since I'm now getting honest about your review, "I'm not telling you anything, its not in your name". As long as Utah continues to protect "used car salesmen" there's ALWAYS going to be, just that "used car salesmen". And Jeremy, you are correct, I am an...
Read moreI do not recommend shopping here.
My husband and I were shopping for a van. I seen one posted on Facebook from here and decided to stop in to see it. We ended up test driving another van I seen. I could tell something was wrong with the steering. When he pulled it out of the spot for us to take on a test drive it made a popping sound. On the test drive there was a vibration in it. I told my husband I wasn't sure about it because of the steering and if we purchased it I would want that fixed first. He had found a truck on the lot he wanted. We looked at another van but found we could get the truck and van at Westgate for less than the one van at another place. My husband had been wanting a truck for work so we returned to Westgate. Was told they would give us $500 off since it likely just needed a cv axle, which I told them I suspected was the issue, and balancing so $500 would cover it. Wow was that wrong. I am thousands into repairs on it and the popping still hasn't been resolved. Replaced all of the steering components other than the steering shaft which may or may not be the issue. The DVD player which I was looking to have working seemed to work for their movie but not mine, after signing papers of course. Ended up having to replace that. The air conditioning in it doesn't work. There is a grabbing in the brakes intermittently while stopping. The transfer case is leaking gear oil. The list goes on and on. When I originally found out all of the steering needed replaced I contacted Kirk. Jeremy called me and told me they would send me to their mechanic to get things done at their cost. However after finding the brakes were installed incorrectly and the tires were balanced wrong I decided not to go that route. He said to let him know if there was anything else they could do as he would prefer having a happy customer. Well today while my van was in the shop yet again I used my husbands truck to get our kids from school at which point it began blowing tons of white smelly smoke. The emergency brake gets stuck and you have to play with it to get it to release. The cargo light was stuck on so the bulbs had to be removed until it gets fixed and it had no reverse lights. The reverse lights were a simple fix as a fuse had blown. It had the wrong size fuse in it when I replaced it. So now we have not only 1 car needing a bunch of repairs but 2. The response I got today when I messaged Kirk about the truck problems was "you got a used car, you get what you get". 1 car having issues is bad luck, 2 is bad business. Make sure if you shop here you have plenty of money to spend on repairs and have a mechanic do a detailed inspection first. Definitely do not recommend shopping here and have made sure to let my friends know as well as to let their friends know of my experience if they are in the market for a used car. If a deal seems too good to be true, it is. Now we have spent more on the van for repairs than we did to purchase it. Completely not worth it. Very...
