I had a fairly expensive repair ($321.00) done on a rarely used watch in 2011. I was told that there was corrosion inside because of moisture intrusion and was given a quote for the work to clean the corrosion and take care of the moisture issue. After I picked it up, the watch was kept in a safe until May 5, 2013, at which time my husband took it out to wear on a trip to Asia. A couple of days later, he mentioned that the watch face had clouded so badly that he couldn't even read the time. It was obvious that the moisture intrusion had not been repaired, so I called and took the watch in today, after he got back in town on 5/21. When I called, I spoke with Teresa (one of the daughters) and she said they would have records on the repair if I could give her a date, so I found the charge on our credit card and gave her the date, which was 2/19/11.

When I took the watch in, I was told that the repair was only warranted for a year. I responded that I understood that it had been quite some time ago and I wasn't trying to get anything for "free", but the watch had not been used and I was just concerned that the original problem had not been fixed. (I thought they would be interested in this little fact too.) Her father came over at that point and asserted that you can't really fix the moisture intrusion on a watch that old (purchased in 1990). I pointed out that if I had been told that they couldn't fix the root problem, I wouldn't have paid to have it fixed. At no time was I told that they couldn't repair the problem, only clean the corrosion. There was even discussion about the repair at the time I initially took it in because it was a rarely used watch and I questioned whether I should go to the expense. (I did it because the watch was a sentimental favorite of my husband's.) I told them that I felt like I should have be told that they couldn't actually fix the watch. The father told me that I should have asked more questions because they couldn't be expected to cover everything when they talk with you. I asked about the notes on the repair that they had mentioned; however, Teresa said that the records were too old and had been put away. I said, "but you have them, right"? And her father said that they weren't going to waste their time looking for them. At that point, he said they would have their watchmaker look at the watch and let me know if the moisture intrusion problem could be corrected and, if so, how much it would cost.

They started the in-take process, but with even more commentary on how it wasn't their fault, etc., etc., using the analogy that I couldn't have a car repaired and not use it, then go back to the mechanic in two years if it still had the same problem. I don't agree that it's the same thing at all and because of the attitudes, just decided to take the watch to a real jeweler in Atlanta, when I go back in a few weeks. After all, what was I thinking? If they couldn't repair it the first time, why would I pay them more money for them not to repair it again?

I must say that I was amazed at their attitudes, in view of their positioning as a "hometown" jeweler in a small town. In the interest of fairness, it should be noted that I have never purchased anything at Pittman's, so I'm not exactly the type of customer they want. Other than the watch, I have only used them for several minor repairs over the years - like replacing clasps or that sort of thing. For simple, no-brainer repairs, I think they're fine; however, I would now caution against any real repairs and if I did use them, I would be very sure that the repair was done correctly. You can't just assume. For purchases, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Their offerings are limited, unimaginative, and inexpensive looking - not anything you would...

Rude, and unprofessional. If I could give negative stars I would. I have never had a good experience at this place, but this last experience was beyond. I brought in some jewelry to be repaired and asked for an estimate on each item before anything was done. The reached out once to which I returned their call to be told I don't know let me talk to the jeweler and I call you right back. A week and a half later still no estimate, no call back nothing. So I called back to be rudely spoken to by the owner who's claimed to have answered the phone with company name twice (he did not). He never while on the phone said anything but hello rudely then when I asked if I had called pitman's jeweler he rudely said that's what I just said. To which I told him no you didn't and I want to speak to someone else. After further back and forth and finding out my item that wasnt approved for them to work on was in front of the jewler as we spoke. I told them they didnt have my permission to do anything to it other then put it back in a bag as is and i will come pick it up. So now Only one of my items had been approved by me to be repaired. And since rude unprofessional behavior is how I've always been treated in this establishment I did NOT want them doing anything more than what had already been done. So they took upon themselves to fix my other ring even though I said I wanted it put in a bag immediately. And not to have them do anything to it. I understand that that was their way of trying to make it up to me, but I didn't want it. I would have rather taken it elsewhere and paid for it I didn't want or expect anything free and it just seems like all they tried to do was to compensate for their non existent customer service and rude behavior. I will never use this place again...

Went in and the place was fully staffed but the service was not that great. The fact that there were at least 3 ladies behind the counter and only myself and one other customer no one was enthusiastic about helping me. I eyed in item through the glass for several minutes, looked around, (looking like I need help) no one seem interested in making a sale. when a 4th lady came from around the back, I waved her down, she started walking towards, then redirected and later when I flagged a 5th lady down, she said Oh I thought you were being helped already.... why would I beckon you over if i didn’t need your help? Nonetheless, I found something I like, I was willing to get it despite the crappy service. I wanted to customize it by switching out the center stone. The jeweler claimed he would look into it. He told me to call him to follow up in two days. I call 2 days later, he barely remembers me, after trying to prompt him to our original conversation, he wraps it up by saying he couldn’t find it. More like he did not even look. Its ok, I ended up in Zales in Florida mall and they took great care of me there and I love...
