Service department are theives!!
A month ago I took my vehicle in for a front wheel alignment, inspection, & oil change. I provided my own oil & filter. They tell me to pass inspection I need $500 worth of brake repair due to a pulsation when the brake pedal is pressed, new wiper blade, & new $100 fog lamp assembly, (I needed the whole assembly because you can't change just the bulb - their words not mine). I went to school for auto repair so I told them I'd pick it up, do the repairs & bring it back. They tried to charge me for the oil and filter on my oil change. Thankfully I checked the bill before I paid.
To fail a brake inspection for a pulsation the brakes need to vibrate you off the road, or jerk the steering wheel side to side. My vehicle did not have either of those issues. I did have 1 brake pad that had a small surface crack in it, but also nearly half an inch of pad left on all 4 front brake pads. To which I took a sander and sanded off the pad til the crack was gone and reassembled my vehicle. (I get it, the shops aren't legally do that). I also noticed a small quarter sized dent on the surface of the pad, to which I couldn't figure out where it came from. My fog light wasn't working because I had a burnt out bulb, so I changed the bulb for a tenth of the price they said it needed to be repaired. Low and behold, the bulb replacement fixed the issue and I didn't need to buy a whole assembly. My wiper blade, of which I use daily due to working next to a construction site, was ripped in half a good 7 inches worth. (I suspect intentional damage). I call Stocker's back and inform them I'm not bringing my vehicle back in, but I want to talk to a manager. I inform the manager of everything I was told needed fixed verses what really needed done to be fixed, & explained my concern of the suspicious tear in my wiper blade. He stood by his tech & said there's no way his tech would have done anything. I allowed him to pull my vehicle in the shop so he could feel the pulsation and look at the brake pads. As I am walking into the shop area I see his tech PRYING my brake pad off with a screwdriver (the cause of the dent on the surface of the pad). My vehicle has a special retaining clip that holds the pad in place. Thus why the tech was forcibly removing the pad with a screwdriver wedged between my rotor & pad. When I brought up the wiper blade issue the tech pulled up my wiper blade (of which I had already replaced), & tried to show me where it was damaged. He then got super confused because he couldn't find the damage. This "awesome" tech couldn't even tell it was a brand new wiper blade. Despite seeing brake pads that now passed inspection, a new wiper blade, & a fog light that worked the manager still stood by his tech & they would not give me an inspection sticker.
Today my boyfriend calls and asks me to go to Stocker's and figure out why they're charging him $120 for a recall repair, an oil change, & a complimentary inspection. They charged him for an inspection. Because he bought his new vehicle there they give him free inspections. Ok, honest mistake, get that removed from the bill & pay it. When the bf gets off work (after closing hours at Stocker's) he asks why the oil change was $87. I told him it was an oil change & the emissions inspection because the emissions wasn't part of the free inspection deal he got when he purchased the vehicle. He told me to go out to the truck & see if they put an emissions sticker on it. Low & behold, no emissions sticker. You see, my bf lives in Clinton County, they don't have emissions inspections. Meaning, his truck doesn't need emissions tested, let alone an emission sticker. I now have to go back tomorrow (when they're open) & get a refund for work that was not only not needed (because they run the registration when performing inspections, & the registration says Clinton County), but also not even preformed (lack of sticker on...
Read moreI had purchased a car over two weeks ago now. Was so excited as this was my first time buying a car. Turns out the wiper motor didn’t work and needed replaced. But i’m the only reason it got fixed because apparently it was unknown beforehand. The check engine light was also on which I brought up before purchasing and the salesman said “oh yeah i think they’re probably waiting on a part or something” but was also only brought up because I said something. The part for the wipers took 2 weeks to come so after purchasing the car it had to sit at the lot for two weeks, they said they would fix whatever problem illuminated my engine light while they had it. I called almost daily for updates on the part and left message after message and not once got a call back. I even called the direct extension for the salesman who sold me the car and not one time did he answer or call back even after leaving messages. Today is two days after I picked up my car and my engine light is STILL on even after being told it was fixed, AND I have a headlight out that I only discovered after driving at night the next day after getting it. I called to let them know and was told that all they could do was make an appointment to get it hooked up to their machine. The problem should have been fixed and the car should have been thoroughly looked over and checked out before being put on the lot for sale. This experience has been nothing but a headache. I also had mentioned a budget I would like to stay close to and I am now paying $100 more a month than I said I wanted to. I felt like I had no choice but to agree to buying the car because I was pressured the entire time, and when my fiancé had asked if I could test drive another car the salesman told her I won’t get approved for a loan for that car so there was no point. Completely disregarded any question she had because she wasn’t the one buying the car. I’m young and don’t know much about cars so maybe that’s my bad however I know these problems had to have been known and they just wanted to make a sale so they were hurrying me through buying it. When I picked the car up I had to drop off the title for my previous car (which I was also given no choice but to trade in) and drop off the key. The salesman acted so inconvenienced by me being there. I had asked for another key for my car and the salesman turned around and walked right back and said they didn’t have another one so i’ll probably have to get one myself. If I ever decide to buy another car it will never be from here again. I do not recommend anyone to buy a car from Derrick Brown or Stocker Chevrolet. What I had thought would be an exciting experience in my life was nothing but disappointment thus far. I love the car but not the problems that have...
Read moreI want to update my review since its been a year.
I bought a used 2014 Chevy cruze off of Stocker's Chevrolet in 2018. Albeit. The car was not in great condition, it had a cracked spoiler, needed new brakes, the interior was dirty (and covered with dog hair and caked with mud that will still not come out) etc. However, the man I worked with got me a good deal and a great warranty. The warranty replaced a lot. And I mean A LOT of parts in the vehicle, making the cost of buying my vehicle VERY cheap. Please note, replacing a car's carpeting is very cheap if you do it yourself. It'll only run you $200 but I bought custom molded car liners from Maxliners so I don't need to. ($220)
Their service department has always been great, I primarily go to Carlton for all my scheduling and service needs. He's absolutely wonderful at what he does and he takes care of you and listens to what you want, and need.
I come from a family of mechanics, and I can say that I do in fact trust their service department. The only thing they ever did "wrong" was forgot to clean my oil life remaining on my driver information center. And its just a button you press and hold and you can do it yourself. If thats the worst they've done in the past 2 years, with I'd say over 30 visits there for repairs and oil changes, then I must conclude that their service is great.
Clearly things change, and sometimes new staff really fix problems. The staff there is courteous, knowledgeable and very good at what they do.
I still go to Stocker's Chevrolet and will continue to go there so long as I'm in the State College area.
Old review from a year ago:
Stocker has always treated me very well, and I was taken care of even much more by Rusty when I bought my Chevy Cruze. I bought it used with about 70k miles on it, and it came with an engine warranty until 80k. About 6 months after buying my car I had a vacuum leak and it was also found that the manifold needed to be replaced. They took care of it free of charge under the warranty and made sure it was working well before giving it back to me. GM unfortunately took forever on shipping some back ordered parts but alas it was done in not even 2 weeks and they had it done the SAME day the parts delivered. If you’re looking to buy, old or new, go see Rusty and make sure you call him Sparky for me, he’ll get a laugh out of it. Back-story: I walked in and very confidently asked everyone I could find for Sparky, and no one knew who I was talking about and I looked like a blubbering idiot. Needless to say his name is Rusty, and not Sparky but he likes his...
