We were finally able to get there over the weekend, it's an hour and 15 minute drive from where we live, & we had a ton of books, 4 bins total. When we first arrived, we spoke to a guy named Aaron, he was very nice and helpful. He said for us to bring the books in and he will look at them individually and let us know if he's interested in buying any of them. My husband went out and retrieved all 4 bins and brought them in. As soon as we came back to the buy/sell counter, there was a lady standing there named Alice. From the beginning, we could tell she wasn't happy about all the books we brought. Before looking at ANY of the books, she told us that she probably couldn't help us. In my opinion, that was pretty rude. We felt like she just didn't want to take the time to look at them since we had so many. She proceeded to look at a couple books that were on top of one of our bins, she then said that it looks like we might have bugs because the books were "nasty." Of course they are dusty and not in the best shape, these were in my husband's grandma's library and she's been gone for quite some time now. That wasn't a very nice thing to say and I think she could've used nicer words. She kept saying over and over that she couldn't help us. My husband then asked her if she could just look through the rest of the bins just to make sure. She said "okay" with an attitude and said the only books she'll take are sci-fi books. She then went and retrieved some gloves and as she was sifting through the books in 1 bin, she kept acting like they were infected with some kind of disease. It made us feel bad, honestly. She stopped looking after 1 bin (she only looked through half of it) and just stood there with an annoyed facial expression. After my husband finished showing her all the books through all 4 bins, she ended up taking 4 books and offered us $1.95 cash or $3.48 store credit. We then asked if we could just donate them and she said no she didn't want them. I refused the store credit because why in the world would I want to purchase something from your store after being treated that way? We understand that the books were old and she probably really couldn't have taken in most of them. What we don't understand is why she was so rude to us? We felt like we were a burden and that we were dumb for even trying to sell books there. I will never again step foot in your store and I've already told a few people they might want to go elsewhere if trying to sell books there, & definitely dont deal with Alice. If she had been nice and helpful but still only took 4 books, I wouldn't be writing this review. She was very rude and...

Two words: BUYER BEWARE: This place does have a lot of books, sci-fi and other collectibles but I mainly went there as I saw that this place sells "USED" musical instruments. I write and record commercially licensed music since 1984, and play many instruments. After fighting heavy traffic, it was awesome to see that this store had A LOT of instruments, HOWEVER this is where the problem is. This store seem to have some sort of "buying" system, where they give the seller a certain percentage for the sale of instruments. The issue is, that this store is selling music instruments that are "several" years old, about TWICE the amount what new instruments of the same make is CURRENTLY! For example, I found an again "used" acoustic electric guitar that was about 6 years old, selling for $325.00 USD at this store, while I could buy the same brand of acoustic electric guitar about $199.00 USD NEW! Another example, Soprano Ukulele's that are being sold at this store, brand new that have prices on them all for $45.00 to $55.00 dollars, are really $19.00 online and elsewhere. This is a nice looking store.. but "buying low and selling high" is one way to make a profit... and "price gouging" is another altogether.. sorry to say.... but the latter is true...

Very disappointed with how they handle there business.here let me explain.ive been there twice and both times.I left feeling ripped off you see the first time I only took DVDs and cds and I mean a lot of both.at least 1400 dollars worth of merchandise.you would think they would of at least figured a dollar a cd and the same for the DVDs concidering that they put them back on there rack for at least 5 dollars a item.so yeah when I received the offer for 54.00 I was blown away.but times were hard and I need the money so I took it.noe this last time I filled three bends full with cds,DVD, and slot of books and not stupid reads but good stuff.the whole trilogy of Harry Potter,Indiana jones.marvel comics.and a bunch of other titles.and this rip off of a company had the gall to only give me 18.35 for all the books and other items.hell the D&D. Books alone Wich were 5 of them were worth 4times the amount.all I have to say about there buinlsness is it must be nice to rip off people and get away with it.treating hard working. People like sheep .if I were you I'd treat that place like the fires of hell and stay away from that chop shop of a store they don't respect there costumer.and they don't...

A treasure hunt for book lovers, collectors, and pop culture fans Walking into 2nd & Charles in Columbia feels like stepping into a pop culture playground. This store is huge and packed with personality. Whether you’re into books, vinyl, manga, games, comics, collectibles, or quirky t-shirts—you’ll find something that catches your eye. We had so much fun just wandering the aisles. There are entire sections dedicated to everything from fantasy novels to vintage records to anime merch. I especially loved the “in case of emergency, break glass” display (you’ll know it when you see it—so clever!). The store is well-organized but still has that thrill-of-the-hunt feeling. You never know what you’ll discover, especially in the used sections. The book wall with the giant 2ND & CHARLES logo is a fun spot for a photo, and the staff was friendly and helpful without being overbearing. Everything felt clean and easy to browse, which isn’t always the case in secondhand shops. It’s a great stop for anyone looking to explore, geek out a little, or just get lost in the shelves for a while. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town!

2nd & Charles has a lot of books, mostly fiction, and essentially nothing that I care about. They have a great selection of vinyl, comic books, movies, Christian fiction, toys, and some oddball unexpected things like instruments and collectibles, but nothing that interested me monetarily. It would have been great if the computer section had anything more than the 5 non-technical books they carried, or if the science section was even that big - but hey if these books are all trade-ins, maybe those sections just sell out quick. I love that they had a board game section, but I didn't like the high prices. Overall, it's a nice store for people that aren't like me.

Great selection. Great prices. Great customer service. Greeted three times after walking in the door. Very friendly staff who seem anxious to help a lost person (like myself). And they even have a huge selection of PS2 Games. They open used disks and let you view them at the register before you actually purchase. The only thing I would suggest is that they invest in some Renuzit, or Glade, or perhaps burn some of that incense they sell. I know it's not their fault, but some of these books emit an odor that smells like grandpa's third day socks. Perhaps a charcoal HEPA filter in the A/C ventilation?
