Hobbies Galore — Local services in Columbus

I only got into the RC Car Hobby a few months ago and have been very appreciative of Rich, Dan and everyone else at HG. They have a huge selection of cars, trucks and parts as well as tools and other consumables for RC. Keep in mind they have a ton of other cool stuff in the store, I'm just really only interested in the RC inventory. In all of my discussions with them, I have never felt pressured to buy anything and have only had good experiences. I'll include two examples below.

First, when I was buying my third car (First one from HG) I was talking to Rich and asked him what replacement parts he recommended to get for that specific model. Rather than listing off a bunch of parts to sell me that I'd never use, he just recommended to hold off and see what breaks and that they were open seven days a week. It felt like a really honest response that made me more comfortable purchasing a car from him.

The second was the most recent. I had purchased a small 1/24 scale buggy that was a blast to drive, but started having battery issues by the third run when the OEM battery wouldn't hold a charge from the "smart" USB-C charger that it came with. I called HG and talked to Rich to see if they had any batteries in stock. Unfortunately, they didn't have any OEM, but he had an aftermarket one available. When I got to the store thirty minutes later on our way to the skatepark with my son, Dan said that he was mistaken and the aftermarket battery wouldn't fit in the tray. Expecting that to be the end of it I was excited when he said not to worry and that they had an alternative option. He said that they were going to take an OEM battery from the stores display model and sell it to me. He actually already had it on the charger ready to go when I came in. And to top it off, Dan was kind enough to help revive my first battery that I thought was a goner. This is above and beyond what I'd expect from a retailer nowadays.

Wonderful to find a busy well stocked store with multiple lines of different hobby interest. That means I’d not been there in a few years at which time it seems to have been starting out.

Now? Wow the growth of the store is phenomenal with many hobbies to choose from and most interesting each is fully stocked beyond the typical place of a few this and some of that. How many times have you started into a new interest and kept finding the same old same in other shops.

Here you can and do have an extreme in a good way choice of enough parts and accessories to build a project that is above what you’ve done before

What took me there today was to see what the new and mostly used 1:18th diecast cars were like. I’d say a 50/50 mix. Only detriment easy shopping and making a decision was that many of the choices were not priced. That slows me down in making choices and buying decisions. Yes you can ask for a price but that is bothersome.

I visited Hobby Galore on 3/19/25. I was having problems with my traxxas rc car. As I entered Dan was on the left of the store. I told Dan my problem with a burning smell.Dan stated it was the speed control that burnt out. After he told me the price to fix it, I decided to buy another car.As I was shopping around the owner approached me asking me was I bothering Dan. He told me Dan doesn't like anyone bothering him while he's working on cars.I am just asking questions about a car I may want to buy, I said. Dan told me he runs this area of the store.i felt this was bad customer service by them acting bothered by my questions and I was trying to spend money in their establishment. The week prior I had 7 cars repaired there, spending over $400. I later found out that traxxs has a life time warranty on the part I needed. I could go on about about how rude and unprofessional they were. I will never Shop there again and spend my money. If Dan is busy fixing cars he should be in the back where he won't...
