T.J. Maxx — Local services in Columbus

Had to get some dinnerware, pillows and doodads for my son's apartment while visiting him in Columbus, MS. He's too busy learning to fly jets to go get things for himself, so I and his brother took off TJ Maxx to help him out while he was going in to do an update and debriefing last Saturday morning. The girls working back in the home goods section were really engaging, helpful, and interested in showing us what they liked and thought we might like as well. Man, I love that enthusiasm! They knew our TJ Maxx in Montgomery had 2 levels and said they wished their store was bigger. I told them it may be bigger, but it's always a mess in the Montgomery store. In Columbus, everything was neat as could be and nicely displayed. Everything we were there to get, they helped us find with smiles on their faces. What a bonus! Our Montgomery store may be bigger, but it's always messy like no one takes pride in the store, and you're on your own there. If you ask for help, they huff and puff like you're putting them out or keeping them from taking their break, but that's pretty much the service you come to find in Montgomery, and "smiles" are virtually nonexistent. I have made many trips there this holiday season and find great, new items each time. The only issues I have found while shopping are either the amount of product in a small space or the crowd of people shopping in the store. After two days though, the items were re-arranged in a way that was much more navigable and aesthetically pleasing. The amount of shoppers also depends on the time of day/season too. While shopping in my favorite store I was approached by a man with a laminated piece of paper. He puts it in front of me and says something in Spanish. While I am 63 shopping alone in the back corner of the store I felt afraid and no one was around. I said no thank you. I noticed it was asking for money. I refused to contribute. He was nice and left but with him was a young boy playing soccer in the store. When I checked out I mentioned it to the cashier who didn’t seem to care or know the security procedure for the store.
