*For WOC/POC/ALLIES!: I visited this establishment on 3/29/21 for a surprise date. My bf recently bought a firearm from this location for our house and wanted to "teach me" how to use it. (Unbeknownst to him, this South Georgia girl knows her way around a Remington bolt-action rifle lol.) Like I said I had no idea where we were going on this date. Bc of this i dressed for indoor and outdoor activities, including a headwrap (Erykah Badu style) to keep my hair under control bc of the strong wind. We got about halfway there before he whipped out 2 pieces of paperwork (1 lime / 1 aqua) stating the rules and regulations and price list for the range and asked if I saw any issues. Everything looked kosher. Upon arrival, a sign out front the entrance stated the dresscode. In my head I asked why was this not on the the paperwork. Immediately I saw that I was violating one of the rules by wearing large hoop earrings and I took them out. I could understand this rule bc of safety issues. Everything else seemed ok, until I got down to last rule that stated basically no head coverings (none whatsoever) except for "front facing baseball caps". One could argue that you could be concealing something under a head wrap, but same could be said for under a ball cap, hell under one of my wigs lol. Immediately I recognized this as a discriminatory practice. But bc they are a privately owned gun club they have the right to refuse service. We went back to the car to see if I could manipulate my hair to a more palatable style to assimilate to their standards. I couldn't. We decided to try to go in anyway and see what happened. We didn't want to assume they were going to be racially biased against me bc I resembled a Muslim woman (even though I'm Christian). We went inside and everything was ok for about 5 min and we were waited on quit quickly. Then a couple min later another gentleman came around and asked if he could help us. We said we were being waited on. Then he proceeded to ask "ma'am could you do me a favor and take off your headwrap?" Rather than argue and cause more trouble for my bf, I just told him I'd wait in the car. I could only imagine if I was a Muslim woman and someone have the audacity to ask me to take off my covering. They wouldn't ask a nun to take off her habit. Granted I did take a chance coming in after reading the dress code sign and i hoped for the best. I did not want to make assumptions about them like they obviously did about me. It just shows you what type of ppl run that business. I'm not saying they lost a customer bc they never really had me to begin with. But if you don't want to support businesses that tolerate discriminatory practices DO NOT...
Read moreWent here for the 1st time today. Place was great for a range. I used to do most of my shooting on private property, but seein as thats no longer an option ive been stuck havin to go to the range. Decided to finally pull the trigger and make the trip up there.
Price for range time is kinda high, 15 bucks. They say they garuntee at least an hour, but i guess since it wasnt busy i shot for an hour an a half. And thats only cause i ran outta ammo and hit my budget limit. So if you can go when its dead and shoot for a couple hours 15 bucks aint bad. Especially since ommeland in new castle is 4 bucks for 30 minutes, which comes to 8/hr. And they rush you out right at your 30.
The range itself was pretty nice. There were a few new shooters there and the fairly young range master there seemed very patient and helpful to them. I personally didnt have much experience with him as i am not new to shooting, but thats a good thing for anyone who is.
Also they rent alot of guns to you, and they are a class 3 dealer, which means they sell and RENT full auto weapons! Which is are an absolute joy to shoot! Shoot a full auto machiene gun and i DARE you to not have a smile on your face! They also have a membership lounge which seems nice, though im not a member so i dont know much about it.
They also have a ton of different targets that are dirt cheap! I did knock a star off however because their prices do seem pretty high on guns. Ammo is fairy high too, although i guess thats to be expected, although they do let ypu bring your own. Im not sure i would really buy much in terms of guns from them, and i did want to buy a few extra mags for my bersa of which they had none. Actually they didnt seem to have many, if any "budget" guns at all.
However i will shoot there again. I think its worth the trip, despite me living 10 minutes away from another range. They also have several tiers of membership that gives you many perks. If your looking for a place to go to often, their top tier is 300 a year, and that includes unlimited range use and free gun rentals, including the full autos! So if you can afford enough ammo to go often, then thats not a bad deal for the place...
Read moreI usually come here anywhere from 2-6 times a month and am one of their gold members. Usually I see all of the same employees here which are always nice and helpful and will answer any questions, even when they are busy. This past Monday, November 17, 2014, I took some of my work friends here as none of them have ever been here and I wanted to show them how great this range was and how helpful the staff were. Unfortunately there was an employee there running the rental counter that was just plain completely rude and unprofessional. My friend asked if they carried a SCCY pistol and instead of trying to professionally tell him there are better options he makes outrageous claims that my friend is poor and can only $100... long story short it was agreed the gun costs around $300 and it was not ordered through them. We also planned to go shooting and while my co-workers started doing the paperwork I mentioned I was going to be shooting the Sig Sauer P320 today so he could take it out the case and I could pay for my ammo and immediately the employee started again... saying how garbage the gun was and it was the worst mistake Sig ever made. First off, they have 4 different versions of this gun in the rental case... If they don't want people to shoot it then do not put in the case, this happens to be one gun I like. Please keep in mind I have never had such an unprofessional employee here, the employees are usually very professional and may make suggestions but never bash or talk trash on guns they offer that others are paying to rent. Anyway, finally its time to pay and he over charges one of my guests, he should have received half off for sharing a lane with me but he was charged full price and there was no arguing with the employee; he almost tried to charge my co-worker that was not even going to enter the range. If this employee is ever present when I enter again, I will just leave as I don't to hear his trash talk on the guns they offer with no actual evidence or even specifics to what is wrong with the gun. Needless to say I will never buy a gun from this...
