I came in on December 27, 2016 at 3:30 to purchase some cologne for my husband. I quickly found what I wanted, but stood at the glass case for about 20 minutes and not one single employee even looked my direction. They were not busy, either. The lady at the jewelry counter beside me was looking at her phone the whole time. She immediately helped an older gentleman who walked up about 10 minutes after I did, and as soon as she finished with him, she went back to her phone. I finally walked over to her and asked if she knew someone that could help me, and she treated me as if I were a nuisance. Her tone was rude, and she never spoke to me or even looked at me, other than to ask if I knew what I wanted and to tell me my total. She was extremely unfriendly, and I thought about walking out without purchasing anything.    Read moreI would just like to share a little bit of my experience today at Belk in Conway. I wasnt quite greeted as I walked in BUT as i entered the ladies department I was greeted with the sweetest smile from a younger woman. As i continued to shop she came up to me and asked me if I came in for anything specific or if I was just browsing. I quickly took advantage of her help and told her i needed something comfortable yet casual. She didn't hesitate to walk me to the New Directions area and show me what she thought might be a good fit for me. Although she was missing a name tag I did ask her what her name was and how greatly i appreciated her helping me after being in the hospital on and off the past month I needed some retail therapy. It's been well over a year since I was last shopping in a store for clothes. I forgot that Belk's inventory has a very high percentage of bright, big prints and a very low percentage of outfits in higher sizes (say, XL).
The inventory was sparse overall, as was the number of employees if you need help or want to purchase something at a register. I found nothing to purchase.
I guess I'm just not Belk's target market. I have more time and disposable income than I have ever had. I'd like to spend more on clothes. But I do not want to look like a secretary or an administrative assistant or a teenager.
I noticed very little masking (Covid case and death numbers are very high hear, but the staff in this store did not seem to care.)
