We had originally scheduled with another company but they called about 2 weeks prior to our tour and told us if we wanted to keep their tour we would have to pay over double the price. I'm glad we cancelled with them because this tour was Phenomenal!!!! They were following Covid precautions excellently. Everyone wore masks and the truck only had our family and one other family so one on each side of the truck...easily 6 ft apart. Brad even reminded us to keep our masks on and remember rules. We had a great trip on the sand road. It was really bumpy at times but that just added to the fun and excitement. We saw 12 horses none on the beach...but even our guide was happy with the sightings considered it was the middle of a summer heat wave. I also really liked the way the seats were on the truck so you had a view of everything. Everyone was on the side so you didn't have to worry about a blocked view or getting the kids to see over an adult. On the way back we saw several vehicles stuck in the sand....even a tour truck from another company. The kids were a little worried about getting stuck but we told them we had Brad and he rocks ...they started yelling it every time we saw a stuck vehicle . It made the ride so much fun ! Brad seemed to enjoy the enthusiasm. This tour was definitely worth the price and would be unique if you did it more than once. This was an amazing way to spend our day and I would totally...
Read moreMy husband and I had an incredible private tour today with Corolla Outback Adventures. $400 to book a private vehicle up to 8 people. Due to COVID-19, we booked the private tour for just us. We were happy to see COVID-19 protocols on the business's website, and booking was a simple phone call. It looked like the vehicle was being sanitized prior to departure, and our guide often distanced from us and wore a face covering. The back of vehicle where you sit is open air, so no worries about ventilation.
Admittedly, we had an incredibly lucky experience! As soon as we got out onto the beach, we saw a gathering of nine horse! Our guide stopped to let us take pictures and watch the group for several minutes. Our guide was informative, kind, and funny, answering any and all questions we had. We even saw a pod of dolphins in the distance! As we drove, we saw a few lone bachelor horses along the beach and a couple other small harems. Around the dunes, we saw another couple of harems, grazing in people's yards and galloping around. The horses went right by the truck, unphased by us! It was a very special experience. About 2 hours total. Never felt rushed. I worried the cost wouldn't be justified, but I am so glad we splurged! It was a once in a lifetime experience. Thank you, Corolla...
Read moreWe used Corolla Outback Adventures to go see the horses at Carova Beach. Carova Beach is a 4x4 access only beach. There are many companies in Corolla that take you to see the horses, but they all book up fast. We debated on going all week because we were staying a good drive away in Nags Head. Whej we checked for tickets, everything was booked for the week. At the end of our stay, there were only 2 people in our group of 9 that wanted to go. We got lucky and found two tickets for the last tour of the afternoon on the last day of our trip. I'm so glad we decided to do this. That part of OBx is really unlike anything you've ever seen. It's a whole town inaccessible to most. No paved roads, just sand and beach. You are seated on a bench in the back of a truck. It has two welded benches in the bed, with a covering. Basically it's converted to seat about 10-12 people. It's a bumpy ride and if you go early or late afternoon, I suggest a light jacket or sweater. It gets chilly and windy. We drove a couple miles down Carova and then turned around at a community park. Our driver kept our tour interesting and found many horses for us to photograph and ogle over. We even saw a new foal. This is a unique...
