First off I want to say this facility should be sued! I am from out of state, and came here because my husband is a iron worker and travels, I was having issues with being accepted for Medicaid, I was a high risk pregnant patient my doctor was amazing! His nurses were amazing. I was diagnosed with preeclampsia from my doctors in South Carolina, I have had all my past pregnancies with preeclampsia, by the time I was accepted to see my doctor it was already too late I had already rushed to the hospital on Monday July 31sy and was admitted with extremely high blood pressure they were going to make me deliver instead they gave me medication and fluids I was in a room that was dirty and unclean I have no family here it’s only me and so I had my 2 year old daughter they kept telling me she had to leave but I have no one here ny blood pressure was extremely high already … when my iv was taken out the nurse left me with blood everywhere my iron was extremely low and was told I needed a transfusion..the next day August 1st I seen my doctor urine samples were taken …I was diagnosed once again for preeclampsia, my doctor knew why I hadn’t seen any doctor in the time I waited for Medicaid to approve me. And he said I was going to deliver in 2 weeks my due date wasn’t until sept 7th. He asked me to make regular two or three days a week appts open he will admit me strict bed rest, so that Thursday I was to go in to check the baby weight and my blood pressure, he said it was extremely high the baby looked healthy and was 5lbs and he wanted to deliver her bc of my blood pressure, I was admitted to the hospital to deliver her emergency delivery, the pitocin was on and we were going to deliver, social services came into my room and said I tested positive for cocaine. NOT SUREEXACTLY HOW NECAUSE IVE NEVER DONE COCAINE ! And. Don’t even smoke or drink when pregnant, I was reported to cps, in the notes for every nurse and doctor I was a mother with drugs in my system they assumed I was delivering early because of a drug problem and no one wanted to deliver me the doctor over the delivery for the hospital had the nurses turn off the pitocin at night when I would sleep I did not deliver my baby until Saturday evening when my doctor came in. I kept asking for a re drug test and they wouldn’t because there was no way I was positive ! They told me no and I’d have to speak with authorities !! When they came, the doctor before my doctor came in on Saturday broke my water at 2cm as well as gave me a bacterial infection with a strip I started in my vagina that they couldn’t get out I screamed for 30 min while they ripped it out! And no one cared they assumed I was a drug addicted mother! I have 4 children already this is number 5, I deliver my 4lb 15 oz baby on Saturday Aug 5th at 745 pm ! I never received a blood transfusion and I had two it’s in and was giving so much medication once she was out I was told I could not do skin to skin bc I tested positive the nurse yelled at me and stayed because of me my baby barley made weight and was supposed she was acting like normal babies who are on drugs. I was never on drugs and my baby did not go to the nicu! She was amazing calm and healthy no signs of drugs in her system but her was disrespected and yelled at because of her early birth when it was preeclampsia I have never delivered any baby full term because of it. Long story short ! Cos opened a case on me drug tested me and I was clean as well as did all drug screens on my baby to see if I was on drugs during my pregnancy a stool test goes all the way back to 20 weeks pregnant. NOT ONE TEST CAME BACK POSITIVE I had A CASEWORKER WHO YELLED AT ME, a nursery nurse yelling at me in delivery room as if I was a drug addict …. STILL SICK I LFT THE HOSPITAL STILL WITH EXTREMLY HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND DIDNT GET WELL UNTIL 4 weeks after she was born. They tried to take my new born baby This HOSPITAL IS unSANITARY AND JUDGEMENTAL AND WILL TRY take you babies under false drug screens. Same thing just happens to my client from Colorado. So it’s...
Read moreThe intake process of using a kiosk to sign in was suitable for myself, but my husband could not have done it and the next two patients to arrive after us were elderly and incapable of understanding the process. I helped both of them. The second lady was in a wheelchair, slumped over, evidently very sick and was pushed up to the kiosk by the admitting person and told to check in. That patient had no idea what to do and was presenting to the ER for an illness. Had I not helped her check in, I don't know how long she would have sat there before someone helped her. If she were having chest pain or in a life-threatening situation, who knows what would have happened. I was a patient of the ER and got up and helped her.
My husband and I both presented to the ER and this was our third visit that week to an ER. Both previous visits we were not provided antibiotics, were getting worse, and my husband was having difficulty breathing, atrial fibrillation and RVR. We presented together; and, although we were separate patients, I think we should have been kept together. The main reason is that my husband is not as knowledgeable about his medical condition as I am. I was placed in a room in the back awaiting a visit from a surgeon due to abdominal pain. My husband was kept up front in a room with a monitor.
I asked a HC worker to ask if I could be in his room while waiting and was told no. After waiting quite a while longer, I went up and asked the charge nurse myself and was told no. There was a patient in the back that was cussing and saying someone was going to die, which I spoke up and said someone should call security. I was told to just stay in my room and they let him continue. I again wanted to be with my husband, as i did not feel safe but I was again told no.
I went into my husband's room and he was not doing well. I was crying and told him I wanted to be there with him and nobody was even doing anything to me in the back. His nurse said his room was too small and then she heard me telling him that I had not even received any pain meds. She came back and gave me fluids and some pain meds that did not work and said she would be back as they had 3 bags of fluid to give me. She never returned to see if my pain was taken care of and the fluids ran out. After waiting 45 minutes, I decided I was no longer going to be a patient and was going to be with my husband.
My husband was admitted and I was discharged. I did not receive a physical exam to include eyes, ears, nose or throat and this was my 3rd visit in 4 days to an ER. We were both coughing up thick sputum and I feel should have received antibiotics but this was not discussed as they were so busy.
I did see a surgeon and had an ultrasound of my gallbladder but the surgeon never came back. I was just placed in the back room, left alone, and nobody did anything until I got up and said something.
My husband was admitted and stated that the hospital was not the same as it was last March when he was admitted for 7 days and received excellent care. As I was so ill myself, I did not get to come to the hospital when he was admitted. He was given an echo of his heart with a 20% EF and, I guess, the doctor told him there was nothing he could do for him. Nobody called me to inform me of this, my husband was very upset and told the staff he wanted to leave.
He was given no discharge instructions, no new medications, and no instructions. He left depressed and was speeding, driving reckless and running through red lights at intersections in Corpus Christi while I was the passenger. He was coughing so hard he almost blacked out while driving. I called the floor he was on that evening and asked to talk to someone who had been caring for him but nobody called me back. I called the next day and was told the only information I could get was to get online and read his charts.
Overall, my husband felt his care was...
Read moreThis is really difficult to rate. I went to the ER on Monday morning with severe abdominal pain. On a scale of 1-10, I told them I was easily an 8-9. I couldn’t walk. I was nauseous with the pain. I was never given a proper exam— a doctor or NP did not physically examine my abdomen. I was sent for a vaginal sonogram and was told I have fibroids. I was told to follow up with my OB. No pain meds were given other than a shot for the pain that wore off while I was still in the ER waiting for the hours I was there. I went home, called my OB, and they scheduled me in for an appt the very next morning. The first thing she did was palpate my abdomen. She said she does not think the fibroids I have would be causing the pain I have— they are too small. She thinks I have appendicitis. I was sent to get scans for a late appointment (3:00 later that afternoon) to confirm. I received a call at 4:52 pm telling me to go back to the ER because yes, I have appendicitis and I need to be admitted for surgery. My husband and I made arrangements for our daughter, packed a few things, and headed back up to the ER. We checked in, and our wait began again. After a while, we asked someone who worked there if we needed to go through the triage process again because my doctor told us she was calling ahead and we were told the ER would be expecting us. She came back a while later and said there was no record of this. Panicked, I called my OB’s office and had to leave a message with the after hours service for a return call. About that same time, I was called from the triage nurse and explained to her why I was there. She in fact did have information from my doctors office, so I was able to cancel the call back from the on call nurse. I was admitted. The surgery took place around 6 am on Wednesday morning. Nearly 48 hours after I initially presented myself to the ER. Complaining of pain of an 8-9, barely walking, in tears. I am not sure if the ER is over worked, under staffed, or both. I am not sure if it’s because I am a woman and our pain is typically thought to be exaggerated and overlooked. But I am pretty sure standard practice for abdominal pain is to at least examine a patient’s abdomen. If this would have been done, like it was done at my OB, the appendicitis would have been caught the first time I went to the ER. Now I am going to have 2 ER bills, a bill from my OB, and a bill from Radiology Associates. Oh, and a bill for a vagina sonogram that wasn’t needed. I hate to give such a low rating because once I was admitted the staff was AMAZING. My nurses and MA’s, food service, and cleaning service were amazing. But I need it to be said because I feel very angry and upset that my pain was overlooked and ignored and I wasn’t given a proper exam when I initially came to the ER...
