El Potro Restaurant — Restaurant in Corpus Christi

I recently visited El Porto Mexican Restaurant while in town for work and stopped in after a long day. I decided to try the quesabirria tacos, and they did not disappoint – the food was delicious. However, what truly stood out to me was the exceptional service. It’s been a long time since I’ve experienced such attentive yet unobtrusive service. The balance was perfect: the staff checked in just enough to ensure everything was going well without interrupting the meal, and if I needed anything, they were always easy to flag down.

The restaurant was clean, fast, and the staff was incredibly friendly. It felt like they truly cared about providing a great experience, and I was treated like I was part of the family. I truly believe that if more restaurants could master this level of service combined with friendly staff, they would have booming businesses.

I didn’t catch the name of the lady who served me, but I paid out at 6:33 PM, so hopefully, you can track her down and thank her on my behalf. Overall, the experience was exceptional, and the food was a steal at only $20. I ended up tipping $30, which is the highest tip I’ve ever given (150%) at any restaurant. Food was O.K., 7/10. I LIKE this place, despite several flies near our table, this time. (Not previous visit.) (We went 3 times this week.) Waitress Anita was good. Decent price for lunch special. I had the 2 chicken enchiladas, rice and beans, (skipped the little salad- I eat salad at home. I know too much.) The chicken in my enchiladas was a little tough. But good. The sauce/gravy and cheese were good. My Aunt likes it, too, which is why we went 3x. She had the beef enchiladas, rice and beans. The waitress was accommodating, 1. I asked for my own little bowl of salsa, rather than share with a wonderful person who "double"- and "tripple dips." 2. I asked for onions to be added inside the enchiladas with the chicken. I must not have been clear, because the onions were on top, but they were a good addition! I actually ate there 2x, but picked up a burger in drive through for...

I raised their star from one to three due owner's care and concern. I am still noy happy with the charges not being told prior to charges. Fish is not tasty at all.

The food here tasted like beginner. We ordered fish tilapia, seasoning tasted weird and we mean it. We have been to too many restaurant to learn how good food is made. The Fajita here told us as combo, they brought it out without shrimp as told, so we asked them to add shrimp, they added 5 tiny shrimps and charged us extra. And they are not tasty.

Then we asked them for cheese dip, normally if they are charged extra, people will let you know. There is another $5.

Overall, service is courteous but please do not be a victim of price gouged.
