K&K Nails Salon — Local services in Costa Mesa

I wanted to like this place, but unfortunately my experience wasn’t positive and I will not be returning nor recommending this business. I felt uncomfortable early on and just wanted the appointment to end.

When I arrived, I was the only client. The staff seemed rush and were laughing through parts of the service, which didn’t feel very professional. She wanted to use a drill on my nails until I mentioned I’d like the gel soaked off so my natural nail bed wouldn’t be damaged.

I came in for a simple, sheer nude gel manicure — no nail art or shaping, just one natural-looking layer of polish. I showed reference photos (including a photo example found from this salon’s own Google listing for the color I wanted), but the colors they offered were quite different, leaning more pink than what I had shown. First they said photo I showed them was an acrylic color so they couldn’t do it but eventually we did find a neutral shade that I was happy with. I’m sad they had to make me feel weird for being particular about the shade I wanted. I even said I was fine with clear polish if we couldn’t find a nude non-pink color.

I also needed one tip replaced on a broken nail and asked for the length to be evened out to match my other nails. This seemed to cause further irritation, and the overall atmosphere felt uncomfortable.

The service ended rather abruptly — after the UV light, cuticle oil was applied, and I was told we were done. When I asked for a bit of lotion (since my hands had been soaking in acetone to remove my older gel), they declined at first and giggled so I made my way to the front to pay. They then told me to come back saying the lady who was doing my nails was “cookoo” and I guess they told her she should give me a hand massage…. I think they didn’t want to look bad in front of the other customer who had come in a little after me. (she was returning because something was wrong and had to be redone with her chrome nails … so idk what that was about)

I still tipped because I appreciate service work, but I left feeling disappointed and not great. For something as simple as a clean, sheer gel manicure, I had hoped to feel a bit more relaxed.

If you’re looking for a very quick or basic service, this place might be fine, but if you’re particular about color or shape, nail health or a sheer natural nail look, I’d definitely recommend...

You will definitely want your nails done by Quincy! She is the absolute best. I followed her to this new location, and I will continue to do so if she moves! Her work is amazing and I never have issues with my service hurting like I have experienced in the past with other nail technicians. My manicures stay on 3-4 weeks and I work in the hair industry meaning they see a lot of water and chemicals! My manicures have never last this long before I started going to Quincy
