UNLOCKED: Escape Room - Orange County — Local services in Costa Mesa

Came here with a group of 6 with different levels of escape room experience. I gotta say... this place is pretty good! We booked one and finished it and decided to come back the same day because we had a lot of fun.

First room we booked was Against Us and our game master was Dom. Super chill and jokester kind of guy. Dom sent the tone of the room very well and if you are a person that has played Among Us then you'll have a little more love for the theme itself. Overall, the puzzles were the right amount of difficulty especially depending on your group dynamics. Main thing was that the puzzles made sense and were clever enough to feel satisfied for solving it. What was great was that everyone is able to work on something and contribute especially since the group is forced to be split. Among us theme worked really nice for it. Pretty good!

The room we came back for was Return of the Magician and we had Kim as the game master. Kim was very friendly with good sense of humor as well. She was also great at setting the tone of the room. For this game, what we liked was the presentation for it. Solid overall on everything you'd want in a room. Puzzles were a little more sophisticated in this one in terms of thinking of what you need to do. Handcuff jokes were made and we had good laughs haha. Again, great room and props were nice!

To put everything together, we really liked the rooms and the uniqueness of them. They really put the puzzles together well and to have great game masters that actually pay attention and give you good hints while you play is a huge plus. I did the magician return about 3 years ago. It was fun and filled with creative puzzles. The staff was also very welcoming. Last night, I came back with another team. My group of 5 played the pipework and had an unforgettable time. This game splits the group and have the teams work together also compete each other at the same time. It has great easy-medium puzzles. It can be easy if you play peacefully and clean with another team, or it can be difficult and chaotic if your sabotage each other. One of the teams didn't miss the chance to mess up the other team, so we both failed. It was funny and unforgettable. Then we played the arcade, which is a fun, whimsical game reminds us so much of our childhood time spending at our local arcade. It has many fun physical activities and good logical puzzles. Following the glowing reviews, we decided to give Unlocked a try. As much as I want to be supportive and just drop a 5 star, I also want to give an honest review for those looking for what to expect.

We were a group of 2 and decided to go with the Magician room. The room is really well designed, and like the others have said, the puzzles were very fun and thematic. The pacing of the puzzles and rooms worked out really well, even as a group of 2. My only complaint is that the set dressing of 2/3rds of the rooms were quite bare and could use some more props/aesthetics in order to feel more immersive. The lobby/bathrooms could use a visual update as well, especially to keep up with other modern escape rooms. Our game master Andy was great; super friendly and helpful, and I definitely loved some unique moments that they were able to create in that room.
