I called ahead of time to ask if there were reservations. The woman said that I had to go on yelp so I did. I obviously understood if they didn’t but she should have told me that when I called. We had a really big party and that wasn’t an option so I called again speaking to the same woman. She said to simply write a note about how big our party is, so I did. I got there thirty minutes before because I wanted to work with them and they said to tell them when my party was there. The woman at the front was nice (so thank you). My party arrived and I told her. She said the table was getting ready. After almost waiting thirty minutes we went in because we saw people getting sat and our table not getting ready. It became a big deal which I didn’t want to. The manager im assuming got involved and he said that they didn’t. I told him that I explicitly called ahead of time to make sure they did and the woman told me yes. I told him why did you make us wait then and he kept saying there was no reservations. He even blatantly gaslighted us and told is that he spoke to us on the phone. I told him that I spoke to a woman and obviously he didn’t have the same voice, his was deep. He told us that everyone was doing their job and it was us who were at fault. Even though they were the ones who told me to make a reservation online. They were super rude and basically told us do you want breakfast or do you want to leave. We had to be somewhere in two hours so we had to leave. And the worst part was that I really was trying to work with them and communicate with them about having a big party. That is why I called twice, got there early, and asked them a few times if...

I will say that the food was absolutely delicious. Everything tasted amazing, food quality was fantastic, and portion size was great. The reason I am giving three stars though, is because of service.

We went in at 7:50 am on 4th of July, and the place was not busy at all. There was actually more staff then patrons. We were seated immediately and given menus, and then waited, and waited, and waited. After waiting for 20 mins for someone to come by and even acknowledge our existence, I went and told the hostess that no one had come to the table. She said oh that's weird, so-and-so was assigned your table and trailed off. She told someone I assume was in a management position, who sent someone over. The server came over and took our order. After that, another party came in and sat behind us and were treated how you normally get treated at a restaurant and were brought waters almost immediately and their orders were taken soon after. At no point were we offered water. My wife got fed up with the service, and walked over to the restaurants drink serving station and got ice water for us herself. When our food came we had to ask for napkins and silverware. It wasn't one thing that was done wrong, it was many things.

At no point, not one person, ever apologized for anything at all. I've worked in food service before, and I completely understand that things get overlooked or forgotten, but this was unacceptable. If one person was accountable and said "I'm sorry", I would've just rated 5 stars and not written this short story.

I will be going back to The Broken Yolk Cafe for the food, but I will not be going back to...

This place was recommended by many which ended up as a disappointment. I'm latina so I really expected big flavors from here but everything was bland. I ordered the green chillaquiles and it was very dry. Looked good because I took a picture of it but flavor was lacking. There was no salsa for the chillaquiles, my chips were hard hard hard, meat was steak but was greyish for some reason and had no flavor either. I actually had to add salt because it was so plain . I also asked for no onions on mine and they still added them. 🙄🤷🏼‍♀️🙅🏼‍♀️🧅 Felt like I was eating nachos instead of a real Mexican breakfast. 👎🏻 My bf ordered one of the eggs Benedict with chorizo and he hated it.( Don't think I took a picture of it sorry) The tomatoe sauce has no salt no flavor nothing. Like they opened the can and dumped it in there. Not gonna lie the food looked good but it just didn't taste good. The guy who was our server also didn't even give us utensils when he sat us down, when he took our order and even when they brought the food. We had to ask someone else for help. I only took my food to go because I felt bad that my bf paid so much money for such bad food. He left his entire plate. Didn't take anything. I ended up throwing mine away when we got home. We also didn't feel so good afterwards from there. Definitely ruined our Saturday brunch date and it made us loose our hunger. I wouldn't waste my money there unless your into white washed Mexican food with no flavors. Pricey and Bland...

Been waiting for this place to open for several months after hearing that it was coming to Costa Mesa and finally getting a chance to go after it's been open for a couple weeks now. The entire staff is incredibly bubbly, energetic, friendly and helpful (5🌟). The food, while "on paper" (the menu) looks and sounds like it's going be the best breakfast I'm ever going to have, with diversity in offerings, flavor profiles and ingredient combinations, ended up falling just a little bit short in my opinion (4🌟). Some dishes were absolutely incredible (i.e.- Border Benedict: tender asada, moist corn cake, flavorful poblano sauce; Overall amazing flavor and uniqueness), but others fell a little flat (i.e.-Banana Pancakes: lacked a little in flavor and while they were fluffy they were also a bit chewy. Basically they didn't melt in my mouth like I was expecting. Also I found the homefries to be bland and uneventful. A little salt and pepper could have elevated them, or maybe even adding some onions and/or peppers or something to make them pop.) While this first trip here didn't exactly meet my expectations (which were very high), overall it was a pretty darn good meal with decent portion sizes and enough good quality items that we'll be back to try a few more dishes on the menu! There are so many to pick from and that look amazing "on paper".

Decent breakfast. The Border Benedict is excellent with tender cubed steak, and a wonderful corn cake at the bottom. The frosted flakes crusted Crunchy French toast is great with the bread being nice, fluffy, and light. In fact all of their French Toast choices are amazing. The corned beef hash is canned, which some people enjoy, but I was hoping for something homemade. Their crepes, their tortillas, and their pancakes almost seem like they might be premade/store bought? They're somewhat tough and chewy. If you want a pancake on the side, I recommend you get a slice of French Toast on the side instead. The Golden state Benedict is good, but I would ask for it without Siracha. The breakfast potatoes are inconsistently cooked with some pieces being el dente. However the hash browns are excellent nice and buttery. But the seasoned fries are even better. The Greek omelette is good, but warning it comes with egg whites. The coffee is nice and strong. They have a nice large outdoor patio that is shaded. The inside seating is too cold with the AC blasting all the time, every time I've come here.
