Sat 6/21/25 Went to the paint desk. No one there. Waited. Waited. HD employee walks by. Says nothing. Waited. Waited. HD employee changes trash bags behind paint desk. Says nothing. Waited. Waited. I call the store and get put on hold. Now Iām waiting in two different ways. Waiting. Waiting. Hang up and try another extension, get put on hold. More waiting. Waiting. HD employee across the way at Customer Service starts nervously looking at me. Waiting. Customer Service guy calls someone to paint services. Waiting. Waiting. Paint guy slowly meanders up, steps behind the counter, and stares at me. Says nothing. I order my paint. He meanders over to start my order angrily muttering to himself.
Apparently itās me who inconvenienced him. Right. My bad. /s
At least he got the order right, so thatās something.
+1 star because: ā Behr paint is worth waiting for⦠although not that much. ā Guy I asked for help from to unlock a Ryobi tool was very helpful and attentive. ā Young guy restocking cleaning stuff went out of his way to ask me if he could help me find something, and he very much did (I was looking in the wrong section).
Edit 6/25/25, the rest of the story: WARNING! Do not buy Behr Marquee! Maybe if youāre a professional painter or something then it might have its place. But for a standard DIYer, STAY AWAY!!!
Marquee is marketed as 1-coat and paint/primer combo, so I figured Iād save myself some time and go for it. IT ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT WORK AS ADVERTISED.
I would consider myself a good, very experienced DIY painter, and the wall ended up streaky, uneven, and peeling almost right away! The Marquee felt almost gummy to work with, did not spread nicely, and started clumping up within just a few minutes. So I took it back to attempt a refund. The cust service gal informed me that of course itās peeling, paint needs a primer first on bare drywall. YAH, thanks, I know that, but your super expensive can of paint explicitly informs me that it doesnāt. THATāS WHY I PAID ALMOST TWICE THE PRICE!
Fortunately, they reluctantly gave me a refund, I think mainly because it was only 1 gallon anyway and they didnāt want to put up with it. BUYER BEWARE! The Home Depot staff themselves acknowledged that the higher end so-called āpaint+primerā paint needs a primer first, which not even the back of the can says is true.
After all that, I went back to the paint department and got the āstandardā lowest-level Behr paint to finish (and fix) the project.
Had to wait for quite a while for the paint guy to show up again, but hey, at least heās consistent.
Primer first, then two coats of the standard Behr, and all went on like a dream. Never buying Marquee ever again.
+2 stars because they did refund me so I could purchase the better, less expensive paint. Canāt give a full 5 because of how much waiting I had to do in the paint department, and because I had to semi-argue my way into...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am sitting in the parking lot of Menards which was a closer drive for me. That means I actually drove farther to go to Home Depot. I am a pro xtra member and have spend close to $45,000 at these stores in the last 2-3 years doing home remodels and rental property. My visit today was for a total of 3 Tiger J-S-100 floor support posts which sell online for $99.98, in the store they are $109.99 being that Amazon is a click away I asked if they would price match these items. I needed three of them so a discount of $30 on a $330 purchase. Less than 10%, the cashier explained to me that wasnāt the policy but I asked to see if a manager would help me out since I have bought so much here. She got very defensive and insisted that the company canāt make these exceptions for me because then they would have to for everyone and we canāt have that if we want to keep making money and that they have a business to run. I had rebutted that I had been a very loyal Home Depot customer and this seemed like a losing business strategy being that we are in the e-commerce world. I even showed her a comparable product from Menards which was 1 mile away for $69 but I was still willing to pay more to buy the one at Home Depot if they would match it. She refused and said that it would set a dangerous precedent. I rebutted you mean like having a loyal contractor base that are willing to drive farther to your store because you took care of them? I said one more time to clarify you are worried about the company making money so you are going to let $300 walk out the door over $30. She said absolutely, so here I am instead of spending $300 at Home Depot I went to Menards and spent $210 for a spec for spec product because your manager was afraid to take care of a loyal customer. Very let down by this location, likely will still shop out of the different locations still but this was the worst experience Iāve had at a Home Depot. Weak condescending leadership and poor management. The cashier was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst off, I will concede that Home Depot is my top home improvement store. I prefer the brands they carry on tools (Milwaukee and Klein). I have never had an issue in the 4 stores in Omaha. However, the Council Bluffs store has continued to disappoint and frustrate me. Example 1. 3 weeks ago, a co-worker and I left a job site from downtown Omaha to get a few miscellaneous parts to finish a job. While paying at the self checkout, we noticed a group of 5 or 6 employees looking out front window. Minutes later we discovered that they were witnessing my boss's truck being broke into. 1230 PM, in a spot towards the front, someone smashed his rear window in his truck and stole 5k of tools and electrical instruments. The lady who claimed to be manager at the time, vowed to do whatever she could for this inconvenience. As I'm writing this, I still don't think they have reached out to the owner of truck with any information. Example 2. I was with the same gentleman, on different occasion, checking out in self checkout. We had several of the same item. I believe it was electrical boxes and roughly 30 of them. He looked on top of scanner gun and tried to see if there was a way to change qty. An elderly woman comes storming up to him and scolds him, "You don't know how to do that, and you're not supposed to do that!" Her tone and attitude definitely made that trip very uncomfortable. Example 3. Earlier tonight I went in at 730-8 PM to get some electrical material. As you can see in the pictures, this proved to be impossible. The four employees that were sitting and standing on and around pallets that were around the corner clearly seen our frustration. Instead of doing anything, they looked at their phones or in the other direction. When we left the store we happened to notice the gfci underneath pro parking. Not exactly weather resistant. All 3 of these incidents happened in last 30 days and have happened in consecutive...
