SCAMMERS!! The short one with the cap (Sarah) Tried to steal almost $1200 from me. I hadn’t been to their gym for a while due to my financial situation changing and finally was able to start going back. She initially told me that I owed them $160 but that she would settle for $115. She then stated that she could get me back up and running for that amount plus $29.95 making the agree upon price $144.95. I gave Sarah my credit card and waited in the waiting area all of five minutes before Sarah returns and says my card is saying “fraud” when she tries to run it. Confused, I asked her why because I’d literally just used it the day before and it worked perfectly fine. Sarah told me that she didn’t know.. I took her for her word and gave her an Amex card next. When she returned to her office i open my cell to a text message from my bank regarding possible fraudulent activity in the amount of $1144.95 (a whopping additional $1000 more than the agreed upon price ) Quickly, I ran to her office and showed her the text message and told her that the reason why it didn’t go through was because she was trying to charge me $1144.95 . Of course she told me that it was a mistake and invited me into her office to watch her input the amount. It initially said $144.95.. I look away and down at my phone a couple seconds, I looked back up and the next screen said $1,144.95. I pointed this out to her again (for the 2nd time now).. from there, she apologized a second time and told me that I didn’t have to worry about this bill anymore and that she was going to take care of it. She never said that she was scheduling for a later date, never gave a receipt, her exact words were, “ I’m about to make your day, I’m going to take care of this balance and you don’t have to pay anything but the monthly balance of $29.95 moving forward . She then proceeds to give me a key card and I went about my workout. The next morning, I woke up to an email from alcovy stating that the scheduled payment for $1,144.95 failed and that they were going to try again at a later date. She scheduled the charge to come out later!!! That morning I called to speak with the other owner(PAM) pretty much all but begged to speak to her but the little girl at the front desk (Lindsey) and the “assistant manager” Valerie absolutely refused to contact her(Pam later called me and stated that she was home and available the entire time) Then proceeded to tell me that I owed over $300 instead of the $160 that Sarah told me that I had a balance of. She then revoked the one month free membership that Valerie and Sarah had given me to keep quiet about the situation Due to me refusing to pay anything anymore. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR IF YOU HAVE BILLS AND NEED YOUR MONEY, RUN FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. THEY WILL SWIPE YOUR MONEY RIGHT FROM YOUR BANK IF YOU’RE NOT PAYING ATTENTION!!
UPDATE: Management has responded stating that they’ve tried everything to “remedy” their mistake.. in actuality, all they’ve done is attempt to scam me out of an additional $1000 and then make false promises to “take care” of a third party balance on behalf of their mistake and also go back on their word to “extend” my membership so that I would not have to pay until June… I have posted updated photos(along with original photos) showing that my membership has been cancelled (not extended)due to me refusing to pay anything additional on top of the $29.95 that I was told was all I had to cover moving forward. I ALSO WOKE UP TO ADDITIONAL EMAILS OF FAILED ATTEMPTS TO NOW COLLECT THE INITIAL AGREED UPON BALANCE OF $144.95.. so to clarify things, I’ve gone from not having to pay anything and a free month of gym membership (due to their unethical behavior) to instead now them revoking my membership and the free one month that they gave to me, due to me refusing to pay anything additional— to now waking up to a cancellation of membership email as well as additional attempts to charge my credit card . I have NEVER dealt with a more dishonest group of individuals. If additional attempts occur, I will be...
Read moreI got a membership to this gym because I recently moved to Oxford and wanted to be at a place that had a sauna. I got my membership on a Sunday.
The locker rooms were not that clean and reeked of urine, but I figured I would give them the benefit of the doubt. It was the end of the week, after all. However, on my third visit that week, the cleanliness did not improve and there were two dead large cockroaches in the sauna. Not to mention the lack of cleanliness in the showers. You could see the built-up dirt in all of the corners and that made me extremely uncomfortable.
After telling the amazing front desk person, Leah, about my grievances, she assured me that she would let the managers know and would have that handled. That was Thursday.
I returned on Saturday to find the location where the cockroaches were was spot cleaned, but everywhere else was still dirty. This action reflected, “we do not value our clients and we will do just enough.”
Because I value cleanliness, integrity, and good customer service, as well as my time, energy, and money, I immediately terminated my membership that day.
Just up the street, Planet Fitness is clean and smells good. Unfortunately, it does not have a sauna - WHICH I REALLY WANTED - but I will take cleanliness over a sauna any day. It is unfortunate because I had a lot of hope for Alcovy, but I refuse to go somewhere to realign my energy, empower my body, and clear my mind while being...
Read moreToday I went in inquiring about personal training services and PAM at the front desk who first came off as very sweet, made a slick little comment regarding my name stating, “My mom must have didn’t know which name to choose, lol” Being an African woman and PAM being an elderly Caucasian woman, that comes off very disrespectful to say the least. Then SARAH who I now am aware is the general manager needs to brush up on her customer service/sales/people skills. I don’t know if she was having a bad day or needs to retire or what, but her little smart condescending comments to my basic questions was unnecessary. She definitely wasn’t interested in trying to make a sale.
This experience has me never wanting to step foot back in this establishment even after already paying my...
