I recently visited the labor and delivery department at the hospital. I have two children. I loved my first experience with my doctors and nurses at my first delivery many years ago, however, this was a wonderful experience as well. I canât quite remember my main nurses name but she was a true delight. She helped alleviate any fears I had. She was gentle and so very knowledgeable. My other main nurses name at night was phenomenal as well. She made the cutest headband for my baby girl that I intend to keep for her in a keepsake box. She gave her the first bath while I was sleeping and I think that she was sneaky and kept her a little bit longer than usual so that I could rest a little (which I appreciate more than she could imagine). My anesthesiologist had a great sense of humor and laughter helped alleviate that worry and fear that I had as well. Whatever he did with my epidural was a bit different than with my first child as I didnât feel an inkling of pain during delivery which sincerely shocked me. My Doctor (Dr. Cabrera) was an absolute saint. He knows how to joke and make you chuckle, all while being so tender hearted when you are an emotional and hormonal wreck. He and his team brought me so much joy and love my entire pregnancy. He told me exactly how my delivery would go and he was spot on almost down to the very minute! I never thought having a baby would be so easy! I also want to mention the look on his face once my baby was delivered. He had a look of love and sincerity on his face the moment he saw her. He smiled at her as a greeting to the world and looked absolutely overjoyed the entire time after. My umbilical cord was around her neck. He acted so patiently and quickly as not to upset me. I cried tears of joy from seeing the love that this team brought to me and my family during a moment that I was under pressure and a nervous wreck. I had another nurse in the delivery room who was so very kind during delivery and helped keep my nerves stay calm as well. I wish I could remember names to include that in my review. The director was a pleasure as well. She made sure to stop by and make sure everything was done ethically and that we were all happy. The lady who delivered our food was a blessing as well. She was so very kind and all smiles the entire time. We couldnât have asked for a better team to greet my child into this world.
Thank you for such a beautiful experience. Thank you as well for understanding anxiety and those who suffer from worry. I left and come home with my sweet baby a little less worried and a little more comforted in knowing that there is a team of doctors and nurses who sincerely love their jobs and care about their patients.
I should also note that they put our privacy and safety as a top priority. They have bands that alarm if a baby is taken from the facility as well as give the mothers a bracelet to wear that allows the hospital to know that the mother is within the one year mark of postpartum if an...
Read moreI can't share a lot of detail on my initial ER intake as I came in by ambulance in full anaphalactic shock and was tubed prior to my arrival and kept in a medically induced coma several days. Upon awakening in ICU one of the nurses quickly calmed me and explained what was going on. All the ICU nurses, were fabulous. I'm sorry I can't remember all the names. One of the ER nurses came in to follow up on me after I was allowed to awaken and had tube removed. After being moved to 2nd floor, again the nurses were fantastic, as were the ladies who spent the entire night going from room to room checking vitals, the one from Westville always had a smile and went above and beyond! I heard an angel singing and found it was actually one of the housekeeping staff. When she found out how much I loved hearing her sing, she made it a point to come sing to me each day. She was my personal angel. The only downside was, the video Dr. Visits, I'd just come out of a coma, had no idea who this person was, at the moment they wheeled in the monitor, I was having vitals and medications, he never spoke to me only had the staff wheel him right back out of my room. I find out later he was actually in the hospital. An ER doctor and Dr. R Walker from ER both did personally check in on me. Staff kept having to rob Peter to pay Paul when it came to supplies. Apparently certain supplies are "issued" on a daily basis based on some criteria. So when 2 South went from a few patients to a full house in a few hours, lots of things were in short supply. At one poi someone came in and took the "night light" from railing on wall behind bed so it could be used in another room. I also had a very thin pillow to prop my feet on and a normal thicker pillow for my head. When I was sat in a chair for therapy, my head pillow was used behind my back. Upon getting ready to lie back down, we went to bathroom 1st and when I got back into bed someone had already come taken my head pillow out of the chair. When my family asked about another pillow there were none available but they had requested linens, yes they were short on sheets, etc as well. Staff was great, but corporate needs to worry more about assuring the medical staff have the supplies they need to provide the best care. As one of the highest priced facilities in FL, NOMC should be able to adequately stock essential supplies. Only other complaint was 1 of my nurses called respiratory to get a breathing TX set up, they never called her back nor came to do a...
Read moreWas here that I gave birth to my son about a week ago. There is always a speedy process to get transferred to the labor and delivery section from the emergency room. Just go to the person who takes the vitals and tell them you need to go to labor and delivery and you wonât have to wait in line to be called. They come get you in a wheel chair and take you upstairs to the labor section. Staff were nice and supportive and offered lots of help after the baby is born. One nurse showed me a great way to wrap my baby. The check out process was a tad long. The day I was leaving my OB doctor, Dr. Coates, was fast with checking me and giving me the go ahead so I can go home which was good but the pediatrician was taking a long time to check my son to say we can take him home. Another thing that sticks out in my mind is they havenât got a photographer to take newborn photos. At the other hospitals Iâve had my other two kids at they both had photographers who came in to take newborn photos for the parents to buy which I liked cause itâs a nice keepsake. One other thing is that they donât let anyone under 18 in the delivery room when the baby is being born. Some people canât find a babysitter last minute if labor is a surprise like mine was. Luckily we found one just in the nick of time cause my husband nearly missed the birth cause he had to go to a friends house and wait for him to drive over from Fort Walton Beach to watch the other two kids. My husband got back from dropping of the other two kids like 15 minutes before the baby was out and very nearly missed it. I think labor sections of hospitals should have a short time daycare for people who havenât got anyone to watch other kids. For the most part it was all good and I havenât got really any complaints but the long wait for the pediatrician to let us go home and the part of them not having a photographer for the labor section. All things considered id give a 5 for their labor and delivery section.
I had to have my stay in the regulsr side of the hospitsl as well, not only the maternity section. I haven't had any huge disappointments there either. The food is good for being hospital food. The majority of nurses and doctors don't mind helping and answering questions, though there is that select few does mind but the majority don't mind helping and...
