š Disappointing Experience & Dishonest Charges
I really hate leaving negative reviews. Especially since my stylist, Hasiba, was actually very nice and fun to chat with. She was gracious when I arrived about 10ā15 minutes late due to car trouble, and I appreciated her chill, professional demeanor during the cut. Unfortunately, the haircut itself and the experience overall were extremely disappointing, and ultimately, dishonest.
See my attached photo for the result. I asked for a few extra inches to be cut off, plus layers and texture. What I got instead were sharp, uneven, staggered chunks that looked like they'd been cut with a blindfold on. I'm not exaggerating, the cuts are visibly harsh and sloppy. I was honestly shocked when I got home and really looked at it. Hasiba is listed as a Master Designer 2, one of the highest tiers at The Hair Cuttery, and has years of experience. I truly wanted to like her and come back, but I had to go to another salon just to fix this haircut. See the attached photo of botched job.
It gets worse. I purchased a āvalue packageā that was supposed to include a shampoo, haircut, blow-dry, and conditioning treatment - and they never applied any conditioning treatment. Yet they charged me full price, as if they had.
Then, during checkout, they added an extra charge for ālong/thick/curly hair.ā This was never mentioned before or during my service. My hair goes past my shoulders but isn't super long, it's fine in texture, and I donāt have a ton of it - itās not extra long or difficult to manage by any means. I have never ever been charged this type of fee anywhere else, and the fact that they waited until the very end to tack it on felt sneaky and dishonest.
In total, I paid almost $100 (with tip) for a botched haircut, a missing treatment, and a surprise upcharge. Completely unacceptable. Especially from a chain salon with āMaster Levelā stylists. This wasnāt just a disappointing cut, it honestly felt like a ripoff.
See attached photo of receipt with the added long hair charge, a photo of the botched haircut, and a photo of the advertised conditioning treatment that was supposed to be included in the special package that I paid for.
Again, I appreciated Hasibaās personality and enjoyed her as a person, which makes this review even harder to write. But people deserve to know. I normally leave 5-star reviews, and I rarely complain publicly. But this was simply not right.
š” For a much better experience, I highly recommend going to Saminaās Hair Salon in Woodbridge instead. I received a flawless cut and full style. Plus genuine kindness and professionalism for only $65 before tip. No hidden charges. No missing treatments. Just excellent...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis incident happened on 12/13/24, I meant to leave this review much earlier but when the incident had occurred I didn't get the stylist name.
I came to the salon looking for a simple wash and trim, my hair is mostly 4a (loose coils) and specifically asked for someone who had experience with curly hair and could cut my hair wet (I wear it curly most days so it being super even wasn't a concern just needed dead ends cut off) the person working the front desk asked around and after a few people gave me a stylist named Marisol.
For context, I had taken a shower before coming here, detangle my hair and put it in 4 large twist to make it easier for the stylist. So in short I was CLEAN and DETANGLED.
Marisol took me over to the bowl to wash my hair before touching me though she made a point to put on gloves. I have NEVER had a stylist in my 27 years of life EVER put on gloves to wash my hair. The stylist didn't have any nail polish or no open wounds on her hands so what was the reason for the gloves? While she washing my hair she kept trying to tell me that she would have to charge more cause of how tangled my hair was. I brushed it off and let her continue with the wash when she kept bringing it up I gently said that I've never had that problem.
She finished the wash and took me to her chair where she then tired to take a wet brush and barely even tired to brush my hair, didn't part it, section it or nothing just tired to put a brush straight through my thick curly hair. She kept complaining about how tangled and matted it was and that she would try but she was gonna have to charge more cause the condition of my PRE-DETANGLED hair.
At this point I had had enough, told her to get off me, ripped her cap off me and asked for a manager. The manager came out and talked with me she was very apologitic and had expressed that Marisol has had a lot of issues with other customers. She offered to have another stylist cut my hair and the next day.
I do want to mention that the stylist (I didn't catch her name and have lost her card at this point) was fantastic and did a wonderful job. (She also pointed out that my hair wasn't difficult to handle and a few other stylist who had been there during the incident also came over to express the same thing)
Overall I want to give the place a higher rating because they do have some wonderful stylist there and the management seems great but it's hard to give a company a high rating when they allow clearly racist workers to continue to...
Ā Ā Ā Read more1 star for Shayla the stylist, 5 stars for how Kelly, the manager handled it. I am very disappointed (see photo) in the TRIM I asked for. My hair was much longer and I thought tops, I would see 2-3 inches cut off, only to have nearly 6, but what is worse than that is the UNEVEN hack job Shayla did. I was upset that she cut off more than we discussed. If my split ends were higher than originally discussed and more needed to be cut off, COMMUNICATE that. Shayla barely spoke, which I understand if you need to concentrate, but this work proves otherwise. What is worse, when I came home (with wet hair because they charge more for a blow dry, which should come with a cut), this is what I am left with--the worst simple hair trim I have ever had. I called to speak with a manager not to complain, but to share with leadership so they can coach her and this doesn't happen again and I was VERY PLEASED with Kelly who offered for me to return to get it fixed by a master stylist or a refund. I will likely return, but make sure I do not get Shayla or another jr. stylist unless they are supervised by a more experienced stylist. I wish I could give 5 stars just to how management handled this, but I do want to be honest about my stylist experience to help others avoid a similar situation.
Stylist: Shayla- did not communicate well and did a poor job on a...
