I have been purchasing made to order strawberry shortcakes for every event for myself and my family for a few years now from Wegmans. Early February I ordered a cake same as usual for my daughterâs birthday with the an exception of buttercream instead of whipped cream due to the shortage in their stores. I went to pick up the cake to surprise my child and her friends and to my surprise, strawberry preserves were used instead of fresh strawberries. I immediately called and spoke with a nice lady (didnât get her name) and I explained my dilemma. I let her know the cake was not what I was use to. She states they will have whipped cream next week (Super Bowl weekend) to call and have the cake remade. Needless to say but I called and they were swamped with orders. I called just about every weekend to hear the same, the warehouse is still out. Mind you every week one of my family members ask did you reorder the cake? Yesterday I went in the store and Iâm like perfect I can see about the cake. Bakery was booming. I spoke with one lady, she went to look for someone âDawnâ. I watched her explain my issue to Dawn. I saw her look my way with demeanor changes and then she walks over and says how can I help you. Not being use to that type of customer service at wegmans I was blown back. I just explained my situation. She asked for the receipt I pulled up my confirmation, Dawn then says she needs the actual receipt. Before I could pull that up she went to talk to her boss (she says). Mind you I can see the whole interaction. She came back to me and says because I donât have the name of the person I spoke with on my original complaint she canât help me. Normally I would take it as a grain of salt. However I called so often and her being the manager of the bakery sheâs fully aware of the shortage of the whipped cream. Now my daughter will not get her replacement cake I promised her due to Dawn not being able to hold another Wegmans employee accountable for not âfollowing protocolâ. Worst experience ever for me in Wegmans. Thanks Dawn hope your day got better for...

đ§đľđˇđŽđšđ˛đ˝đ¨đł The Mother-in-Law in the Aisle
Sheâs standing there, completely still, maybe clutching her purse with both hands or lightly touching a box of something unfamiliar, lost in a sea of options she doesnât recognize.
She doesnât read English.
She doesnât need 37 varieties of mustard.
She's just trying to find the one brand she used to get in 1984.
The family has already moved on three aisles ahead.
Meanwhile:
đ Traffic Jam in Aisle 7
People with carts are lining up behind her, awkwardly trying to pass.
No one wants to say anything â because she looks gentle, or confused, or someoneâs abuela.
A younger person (probably her daughter or daughter-in-law) rushes back in a slight panic: âMami, no te vayas, weâre getting the ice!â
Someone squeezes through sideways, muttering âexcuse meâ with a tight smile, trying not to seem rude.
đ The Loop
Sheâs now eyeing a can of beans she probably wonât buy.
A helpful Wegmans employee asks, âCan I help you find something?â
She smiles politely, doesnât answer, and waves them off.
Five minutes later, sheâs still there, slightly to the left now, arms folded, watching as the family zigzags around her with urgency.
⨠Itâs More Than Inconvenient â Itâs Kinda Poetic
This is someone brought into the chaos, but not really included.
Sheâs physically present but culturally distant, surrounded by overabundance and noise.
And while she might be "in the way," she also represents something â tradition, history, a different pace â in the middle of modern, rushed American life.
So yes: sheâs blocking the aisle, but sheâs also quietly reminding everyone that the 4th of July, for all its flags and fireworks, is also about people, families, disorientation, and generational overlap.
Just donât try to squeeze your cart past her too fast â she might finally decide...
Read moreI never ever been embarrassed in my life. I went to the store to buy some grocery and also return an item my wife bought by mistake sometime in November or October. My wife didn't keep her receipt and she told me tell them to find by our phone number or credit card or even get a store credit possible. She was supposed to get Vitamin DDrops 400 IU for our infant baby but by mistake she got the 1000 IU instead. I was standing there trying to explain the situation. I even told them that i also came bought the right item, that is 400 IU. They said would you please show us the receipt for that. I said we do not keep all the receipt in our bag all the time. I know you should be able to track our purchase using our phone number. I have been a customer of this Wegman for last 4 or 5 years or even more. My daughter was with me that was so tired and i have to beg her to stay calm to get a refund of $9.99 item. I spent almost $76.07 today. Look under my profile all the transactions historically, my family is a regular at your store and we spent a lot money. Do you think my return is a fraud? Shame shame and shame. The person i spoke to at the Customer service, his name is Josh and there was another lady as well but do not recall her name. I told Josh that he can keep the item which that we bought and left the store. He didn't even ask to stop me. He gladly kept the item and see me leaving. I gave up my own money and left. If my daughter was not tired, i wish i would have returned everything i bought today and left. I was that much disappointed. I even asked him if it was a new rule and he said no. I know at some point in that past, we have made a return and used the same credit card to get it back. Not sure what to call this but very much...
