For your own safety, please don't get a membership at this location. My car was broken into, the incident happened at 6:13 pm and the staff was informed by a different member. However I wasn't notified until my credit card company texted me about the fraud charges at 7pm. Then when I went to the front desk they told me they were waiting for me to figure out the situation that happened. They left my car outside with an open broken window for over 45 minutes. Anyone could've taken my car in that time, which is absolutely unacceptable.
The handling of the incident after it happened is what I have a concern with, in terms of the safety management at this facility. The on site security guard only checked outside after I came to the front desk and then told us that they are only liable for incidents that happen in the garage itself, because they don't monitor other areas. This information was never conveyed to us and I think it should be made clear to all members that if they want their cars to be safe, they should not park in the parking lot that you have designated behind the gym, which is clearly visible from inside the gym. It makes me feel like there were employees aware of the incident, and they chose not to do anything about it & were making excuses and further blaming me for not parking in the garage. Their actions and lack of prompt response made it seem like they clearly did not care for the perpetrator to be caught given the time lapse that they allowed to happen. Overall, I feel like the handling of the situation was negligent and unacceptable.
I had over $5,000 of personal property loss in my vehicle, which are detailed in the police report. Aside from the monetary distress, the amount of additional issues I'm facing reissuing hospital IDs/state ids/credit cards is also extremely frustrating.
There's a reason why I pay a premium amount to be a part of this gym & safety should be at the forefront of that mission. However that is not present at this facility.
I sent this email to the manager and they did not respond. Instead I had to call them to get an answer to the request on the freeze on my account. It might look nice from the outside but they do not care about your true wellness.
There's an ongoing investigation in this process.
The handling of this situation and lack of responsibility from equinox has been extremely disappointing and concerning for my safety.
There has been no acknowledgment of fault from the management about their lack of security. Every conversation with them has been dismissive or I have to call multiple times to talk with them. In general it seems like they do not care about their member safety.
Don't go here. Don't spend your money at a place where your safety is a joke...
Read moreJune 2022 update: The hours were extended on all weekdays back in March or April so I have kept my membership. Everything else at the gym is mostly the same which works for me. I have begun using the towel service more often and there are chilled eucalyptus towels available which is great for those 1.5+ hour bike rides.
This is my 2nd or 3rd time reviewing this Equinox where I have been working out since January 2020. Everything is fine at this gym. I have no real complaints. However, I do want to bring awareness to a $10 per month price increase in 2022 that rubs me the wrong way and a 1 hour reduction in operating hours Mon-Fri that specifically decreases the value of my membership. I specifically go to the gym as late as possible in the evening to avoid crowds so I can get a better workout. Due to the shorter hours it is now more crowded at the time I have to get to the gym to get my workout in before closing time. Also, some nights I am very rushed to get to the gym if I have to work late or need to tend to other things at home before working out. The shortened hours combined with the price increase will likely lead to me cancelling my membership in the summer when it is more feasible to exercise outside. We'll see.
Also, I think the management at this gym is anti-hockey, and perhaps anti-sports. There are usually some TV's on with NBA games or other sports. There are always TV's tuned to the food network, CNN, and Law and Order SVU reruns. However, whenever NHL games are nationally televised or the Dallas Stars are playing, there is never a single TV tuned in. NHL games are nationally televised on TNT and ESPN this year, the same channels that televise NBA and college hoops. When NHL games are on, the TV's that are normally tuned to TNT or ESPN are changed to a different channel. Even in 2020 when the Dallas Stars, the local team, were in the Stanley Cup finals on NBC channel 5, Equinox did not have any TV's tuned to the games and I would have to specifically ask for the channel to be changed. Equinox is more likely to have the Hallmark channel on than a hockey game. While Lacey Chabert's phenomenal good looks in "Big City Girl gets Engaged in a Small Town at Christmas" are a motivating factor to stay in shape, sports (specifically nationally televised NHL...
Read moreA very mediocre and underwhelming experience for what is supposed to be a top tier luxury gym and spa.
Equinox Highland Park (EQX HP) is a very tough value proposition, even if you have plenty of money to throw at a $230+ membership. If you've been to the other locations across the Metroplex (ex. Plano), it's abundantly clear that this location is in dire need of expansion and/or renovation to keep from falling further behind.
The Highland Park location suffers in many ways from the fact that it is unacceptably small and constantly busy. The weight floor layout is primarily open, but piecemeal across the gym leaving a lot to be desired as far as a luxury workout experience goes. A generous amount of classes are offered led by enthusiastic and fun trainers. EQX HP shines in this department if your schedule allows.
The locker rooms suffer from overcrowdedness and lack of cleanliness. It's very typical for dirty towels to be strewn about on the floor and near/in the showers. The showers themselves are fine, but the water pressure is quite sad and it takes a long time to feel like you've adequately rinsed off. The Plano location is a 180 difference and blows this location out of the water (no pun intended). The Kiehls products are a nice touch, but the hair conditioner smells absolutely disgusting. There is also no dry sauna (only wet) in the locker rooms, leaving another amenity to be desired, yet excluded likely because the facility is too small to accommodate one. Certainly there was no price adjustment levied for this shortcoming.
As an annual contract membership, this location fails to impress in most regards, and falls short of providing a sense of true luxury or value for the exorbitant price tag that comes with it. Other Equinox facilities perform at a substantially higher standard and outshine this location, but unfortunately, they're too far to reasonably travel to across the metroplex.
If you live in the area and have to be able to tell people you have an Equinox membership, or you can't live without a $15 smoothie, I guess this location makes sense. Otherwise, Lifetime would be worth checking out, along with other boutique gyms within the area that offer a similar experience in terms of equipment, classes, amenities, and hours, but for a...
