LaVui, the little sister of the Oishii restaurants, is everything owner and mastermind Thanh Nguyen said it would be: the beloved sushi rolls from his original Oishii sushi restaurant, fused with Vietnamese comfort food inspired by his mother, and FAST service, appropriate for takeout or enjoyment in the small dine-in area.
As a loyal and longtime Oishii enthusiast, LaVui has not-unexpectedly also stolen my heart, serving up my absolute sushi faves from the Oishii menu such as the Tribeca Roll, the Royce Roll, and the Golden Roll while also enticing my curious nature with special offerings not available anywhere else like the Pho Roll, a hybrid of a salmon roll topped with seared thinly-sliced, tender pho-style steak balanced around the edge of a bowl of perfectly flavored pho broth for dipping and sipping. LaVui also offers some typical Asian faves including curry noodles, vermicelli, pho options, various appetizers and small plates, salads, and my personal favorite, the banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches served in a French baguette).
LaVui’s banh mi offerings are next-level, infusing tradition such as duck, brisket, and pork belly with Michelin-inspired savory nuances like pâté, truffle, and fried egg. It just doesn’t get much better than that! (I can’t NOT order the LaVui Special Banh Mi every time I’m here and it’s just as delicious leftover as it is fresh. I’ll drive 30 minutes for it when the craving hits— it’s THAT good!)
Pro-tip: this location is near the hospital district located just blocks from UT Southwestern and Parkland Hospitals, perfect for lunch or dinner for staff and visitors alike and is directly across the street from the adorable French-Quarter-reminiscent MD Tavern (which I hope to visit someday but isn’t open when I’ve visited LaVui for lunch). They are...
Read moreVery disappointed, I received my plate of food, and can someone explain to me how this plate in this photo attached Is “Shrimp Fried Rice”. I called letting them know I wanted to talk to someone about a refund and they hung up on me. I called again and she did not hang up, but was rude and said we ordered the wrong thing. She said I ordered the shrimp fried plate….there’s nothing on the menu that says shrimp fried plate. The food cost over 16 dollars after tax and not only is the portion way off (literally 7 pieces of shrimp..), this is plain white rice. Does not make sense whatsoever. I was trying to explain what I received to rectify the situation and the lady on the phone was extremely rude, and talked to me like I was stupid. The explanation I got over the phone is the shrimp is fried and comes with rice. I tried to give the benefit of the doubt after they said I ordered the wrong thing, but then all of a sudden they explained how this actually “was” the shrimp fried rice and they said there was nothing they could do. I asked to talk to a manager and/or a supervisor since I was getting nowhere and was told neither were in and that she could take my number down. Very disappointed, will not be returning and will be disputing the charge with my bank and filling a complaint with the BBB and Federal...
Read moreMy husband and I have been ordering from this place for months, we dubbed it our favorite Vietnamese food in Dallas! We had family in town and wanted to show them our favorite Vietnamese restaurant. Our order was over $100 and more than half of it wasn’t delivered. Most of us didn’t get our meals and we didn’t get our spring rolls. It had also taken over an hour to get the food but that’s besides the point! We ordered through UberEats so I called the driver to see if they accidentally left the bag in their car, they hadn’t. So, I called LaVui and explained what had happened to, I’m guessing, the host. They put me on hold to speak with the manager or owner, I’m not sure. The manager told me that they would deliver the food “very late” (it was already 8:00pm) or that I could be refunded through UberEats, very unapologetically. I said we would pick up the food if they refunded at least part of the order. He told me that was not an option which I thought was unreasonable. I have worked in the service industry for over a decade, it is the restaurants responsibility to make sure their orders are going out correctly and if not, it’s their responsibility to make it right. Mistakes happen but own up to them. The management of LaVui did wrong by us and now we have to go find a new regular...
