Choosing StarDust Celebrations was one of the worst decisions of my life and I wish every day that I could go back and undo it. I was flat-out lied to and deceived by Paik, who was my bridal consultant and the rest of the staff who promised that they could meet my needs and that the turnaround on my dress would be no problem. They promised me that once the dress came in I would be able to have my dress at their shop. When the dress came in late, they made absolutely no effort to work with me or feel any sort of concern for my situation. Not only did my $4k dress turn out disastrously, but because of the short time in alterations and the fact they measured me wrong causing the dress to be two sizes too big, I spent almost $800 trying to fix the dress. My bridals were ruined because the dress wouldn’t stay up, and I spent the weeks before my wedding in tears almost every day.
My wedding was in November 2014 and I arrived at StarDust to look at wedding dresses in May after not being able to find a dress that I liked where I live in Austin. I was paired with Paik. After trying several dresses on, I found an Eve of Milady that I fell in love with. I was disappointed to find out that the dress I had selected, and all of the dresses that I tried on were not 100% silk as their website indicated, but I went ahead with the dress anyway.
All throughout the process with StarDust, they asked when my wedding was and this date was reiterated to Paik and the other employees several times because I was afraid that I would not receive my dress in time to perform alterations. Each time I raised this question, they promised me that it would be fine and that there was no need to worry or pay extra for a rush on the dress. They also promised that they would be able to handle the alternatives on our timeframe with no problem, after I asked repeatedly. We paid for the dress in full and were on our way to planning other aspects of our wedding.
After I ordered my dress, communication didn’t exist with them. I began to get worried but they made it clear that they would contact me, so it was implied that I was not to contact them. I finally checked in with them in September to check on the status of my dress as it was now late. They couldn’t tell me anything about my dress other than that they had not received it yet. When I asked if I could go ahead and book a placeholder appointment for alterations, they told me they could not do this. This was when I began to get very nervous that I had made a horrible mistake.
After a few weeks of calling and getting the run around from Paik and the receptionist, I finally got the word that my dress was in on the first Saturday in October. As it turned out, the dress had arrived the night before but they didn’t check to see if it was there until I called on Saturday. Slightly relieved that my dress came in, I asked when I could I could come up for an alterations fitting and reminded them that my wedding date was soon. They would not give me an answer after several frustrating calls over the next day, I - a 28 year old woman - had to get my mother to call them to be taken seriously. My mother called Stardust and they told her that they could not work me in for an alterations appointment for the dress I bought from them, and that they were completely booked and there was no way I would be able to get my dress altered there in time for my wedding.
Devastated by the news, my mother called once more to try to talk to them. They told us at 2:00 PM on a Saturday that the only time that we could come in for an appointment was at 4:30 PM that day. There was no way to safely make the trip since we were three hours away. They told me to just pick up the dress and try my luck with a bridal salon in Austin.
When I picked the dress up, I told a manager about all the problems I encountered and how I felt mislead by Paik and the rest of the staff. It never did look right and my entire wedding was tarnished...
Read moreThe BEST experience you'll have at a Bridal Salon! Everyone we interacted with from Marianne to Robin to Carson to DeeDee were fabulous and made the special shopping day even more memorable! From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted immediately by smiling faces and positive personalities! You are given 100% focus by each person who interacts with you and they genuinely want you to leave happy. My appointment did not feel rushed and after narrowing it down to 2 dresses, my stylist provided her information and the dress names letting me know I could call back whenever I decided. We browsed the bridesmaids and Mother of the Bride dresses where Carson and DeeDee were so knowledgeable and talked us through what the process would be for shopping for those dresses with Stardust. Again, no one was pushy and they just wanted us to get what we wanted! After going to an appointment at another salon that day, it was noticeable the service at Stardust was unique and when my stylist at the other salon dissed one of my top dresses I knew I had decided. I called Stardust and raced back to Plano to order my dress! They stayed open late for us to complete the purchase and celebrated with us with champagne, lots of pictures, and a fun sign! One of the owners even made an appearance at this time and after interacting with her, you can tell why Stardust is as special as it is! My appointment was with Marianne and I can't even say enough about her! She came recommended to me and I will always recommend her now! Not only was she completely knowledgeable about their inventory, the designers, and my body shape-but she also let me have more control over the appointment than I expected! After asking me all about my fiance and wedding, she told me the dresses I put on my wishlist were already pulled and in the fitting room, and then she walked around the store with me-letting me browse the racks to see if anything else caught my eye. I loved getting to do this, knowing that I wasn't missing my possible dream dress. She had the dresses in a specific order for my try on and helped the sample size look as good as it could on my small frame! She talked through each dress with my guests and I, only after listening to my opinions on it first. She put accessories on me when needed and gave us so much information regarding what would look good with each dress and my overall look. Marianne is a goddess and truly a gem of Stardust! After ordering and paying for my dress on a Friday night, I began to second guess the color choice. Leaving Marianne a voicemail on that Sunday morning regarding my concerns, she called me back as soon as the store opened and had me come back into the store that day to try on dresses in both color options. She talked me through both options, showed me pictures of other brides online in each color, and when I decided to change the color it was no problem! I can't believe how accommodating they were for this and am SO thankful for that! The store itself is amazing. They have all the dresses and items on wonderful display, everything is so clean and well lit, and the dressing rooms are spacious having comfortable seating for whomever you bring with you to your appointment! Next time I have a bad day, I'm going back to be cheered up and complemented by this...
Read moreI’m thankful this was not my first stop of the day, because I think I would have had a much less pleasant experience! I called to book an appointment in July and told the woman booking me my budget, which she said would work (and was above their starting prices listed on their website). When I got to the studio and met with the consultant (who was nice but disinterested,) she asked me about style, budget, etc. When I told her my budget, she visibly winced! She said finding a dress in my style (clean, classic, a-line with off-the-shoulder) and budget would be very difficult. I told her I was willing to go up by 1k and she took me around the store to look at dresses.
I felt rushed looking at the gowns to pull. Understandably, since I had a specific style and budget in mind there wouldn’t be tons of dresses for me, but the selection was surprisingly sparse. Maybe if I had more time to look I would have found a diamond in the rough.
During the appointment, my consultant was nice enough, but some things rubbed me the wrong way. For example, while leaving I commented on how pretty a very unique dress was on a mannequin, and she just started talking about how it was the most expensive dress in the store. Her attitude was definitely one of “the pricier, the better.” Overall, I felt like I was not a priority because I was spending less than $3k on a dress. She also didn’t ask a single question about my fiancé throughout the whole appointment.
Something that I thought was weird was I was talking to my consultant about alterations and how you can alter 2 sizes down, since I had lost 30lbs and was planning on losing more. She then mentioned someone she worked with at the store got gastric bypass, lost a lot of weight, then gained it back… what a weird and negative thing to share!
My MOH and mom also said they overheard another consultant loudly complaining to a client about how a certain designer’s photograph poorly. It just seemed very negative.
I tried on six dresses (most of which did not seem worth their price…) and was quickly ushered out. As I got dressed, the consultant tried selling me on bridesmaid dresses and tuxedo services, which just felt tacky. The appointment took less than 45 minutes, but honestly the whole time I just wanted to get out of there. I ended up going back to the other store I tried gowns on at (I saw 15 gorgeous gowns there I loved and were all within or just a few hundred over budget) and bought my dress!
Is this the worst place ever? No! If you have a very high budget, you might find something you love. But overall, the vibe was really off, the selection was poor, the consultants were uninterested, and I felt tense and uncomfortable...
