I went to the Danville Mall on New Year Day and the mall closed early. There was no sign up on the door or inside the mall that indicated that the mall would be closing early. The security guard was standing inside when we entered the mall along with other customers. The security guard looked at his watch and never said anything about the mall was closing early. When we got ready to leave the mall it was a little lady at the door trying to get out and other customers trying to enter the mall. She was in tears and said that all the doors were locked. We had no idea where we were suppose to go out, so we asked the people at Chick-fil-A and they told us to find the security guard once we found the security guard he told us that all the doors were locked except the one on the backside of the mall on the end where belk store. We had to walk almost a complete circle around the parking lot to get to our car. I'm glad that it wasn't cold, rainy, or me alone because it would have been worse. When we finally got to our car there was an older man seem to be around 80 years old and walking with a cane trying to get out. My husband went to the door and told him which door was open. I'm a concerned customer, for the safety of others, because this is not a safe way to close a mall down, because if a fire shall happen to break out, someone may not be able to get out of the building all the way on other side of the mall. It's not safe for a lady, someone pregnant, elderly, or a handicap person, to have to walk that far alone in the dark with no parking lot security. Trying to take a short cut through the grass is very hilly and not safe. The security guard should have had the decent to inform the customers that the mall would be closing early and that he would be locking that entrance, since he was standing right there when we entered. I called and left a message to voice my concern but they refused to...
Read moreThe nearest enclosed malls of any notable size are River Ridge 65 miles north in Lynchburg(1 floor though) and Four Seasons 45-50 south in Greensboro(3 floors). Idk how far you'd have to go west and the nearest to the east is probably Hampton Roads. That being said, you'd think this mall would be nearly full. The drive to Lynchburg is so long and boring and I detest going to Greensboro because of the traffic and never-ending road construction.
The Danville Mall is pretty inside. it took me awhile to get used to the carpeted floors which makes it very quiet even when there are a decent number of people in the corridor. There are still good store choices such as Spencer's, hot topic, Aeropostale, bath & body works, Victoria's secret, and American Eagle plus JCPenney and Belk. But they really need to get some new stores. I understand that five or six things that have left them all in the last few years are because the entire chain went under, the most recent being Payless shoes. But also there have been stores that closed specific to the Danville Market such as Lane Bryant, Kay Jewelers and PacSun. Regardless of why each individual store closed, the list of vacancies keeps growing. Meanwhile the only new things I can think of that have come to the mall in the last few years is the cookie store, Justice, rue 21, and Dunham's. The mall I think is at about 60 to 65% occupancy. I know malls in general are waning. I have been in malls that were only 50% full or even less, but I have also been in malls that were still 90% or more full. Whoever is trying to recruit stores for this mall is not doing a very good job. I really hope this mall will be on the upswing again soon. It doesn't need remodelling or upgrading, just...
Read moreGreat place to walk, mediocre place to shop.
This mall might as well be featured on a Dead Malls Youtube series, but oh wait, you can't because Hull says don't record video of their dieing mall.
Hull hides vacancies behind quickly built walls that are either off-white, or show historic pictures of when Danville, VA was back in it's hey day.
The entire place feels corprate and dull. There are only 2 anchor stores, and most of the stores on the Belk end are vacant.
Be cool if the vacant Sears space became a Round1 Arcade & Entertainment Center but I wouldn't get my hopes up!
The best place in the entire mall is the Firehouse Subs that's seperate from the mall!
It's sad to see the once busy Piedmont Mall become reduced to the dead Danville Mall, much like the very city...
