Bixby Hall, like many student dorms at UC Davis, may appear adequate on the surface, but there are deeper, more troubling issues that cannot be ignored. This isn’t just about facilities — it’s about the overall safety, well-being, and support systems that the university provides to students.
Over the years, multiple tragedies have taken place across campus, including in the nearby chemistry department, where six students reportedly took their own lives — a heartbreaking pattern that points to a serious mental health crisis. Add to this the fatal 2023 campus stabbing that shocked the entire community, and it becomes painfully clear: UC Davis has failed to address the emotional and psychological needs of its students in a meaningful way.
Despite these events, there is little transparency, accountability, or visible change in how student well-being is prioritized. Dorms like Bixby Hall should be safe, supportive environments, but many students continue to feel isolated, overwhelmed, and unheard.
