Julie's Beach Wear — Local services in Del Mar

My family and I came to the San Diego area for vacation. This whole time one of my main goals was to buy a few nice bathing suits. Though I can do so online, I prefer to shop at small businesses. We specifically came to Del Mar to go visit Julie’s Beach Wear, because of the great reviews it had. My family and I walked in and were the only people in the store. We were never greeted as the sales clerk was on her phone and not paying attention. I started to pull some suits off the racks and she seemed concerned I was going to drop stuff so she asked if she could start a room, which-was great, as I wanted to try on a lot of things. I was hoping to buy at least 3-4 bathing suits, and my mother wanted to buy some as well. I continued to pull things off the racks-because they do have a great selection. The sales clerk came over, gave me a nasty look and in an extremely rude and condescending tone (while rolling her eyes) said some thing along the lines of “wow you’re grabbing a lot of stuff and we only let people try on ten things” to which I replied “okay…well do you not want me to shop here then?”. I was genuinely confused because it really seemed like I was inconveniencing her because I wanted to try things on. She continued to be snarky and said “well it’s just going to be really confusing and you’re going to have to hand me everything you don’t want”. My whole family heard her tone and was shocked. I told her I no longer wanted to try anything on as I was holding back tears. I have social anxiety and shopping is already very hard for me. She made my experience horrible and I was bummed because I did like the selection of suits they had. The sales clerk refused to give me her name and continued to be rude while texting on her phone and dismissing me completely. She offered no apology and didn’t seem to think she was out of line. I despise buying bathing suits. Yet Julie has made buying bathing suits a fun experience. She takes her time to help you pick out things that look great on your body, and the quality of the bathing suits are insanely good. You can wear them for years without stretching and fading. Her fashion sense is awesome, all of the clothes are so cute/cool, and I love the little extras that she has like the books and gifts. Carries everything that includes elevated beach life. Great selection and the owner is a local with local beach styles and art pieces from local artists. Great store with lots of selection for a small local shop. Apparently they were established in 1994, so they’ve been around for a while.
