I'm quite disappointed at the way the self proclaimed Head Coach, Mason handled a prospective membership today, 12/20 at around 10:15 AM.
I communicated that I was a low income student who can't afford a long time commitment due to memberships being close to $170 a month (they do discounts the more time you sign up for), so I asked if I could pay for a month. He replied saying that it would be cheaper to sign up for longer ($200/month down to around $170). Being in school, it would be cheaper for me to pay for one month once ($200) than pay $170 over 6 ($170 * 6 =$1,020). Being on winter break, I have a lot more free time so the month of December would be most ideal for me. I don't think Mason understood what I was saying, maybe he just got done with a hard workout and was really tired. He kept persisting I buy a membership at $170 because it was "cheaper" - which really rubbed me the wrong way.
Mason communicated something vitally important about MVMT as a business - basically he said that they're in the long term fitness business. Essentially stating that there has to be an exception made to purchase anything below a 3 month commitment. I then proceeded to tell him that although I don't have the money, I would come 4 times a week at least. Essentially stating that if it's a commitment to fitness issue, I wouldn't be sandbagging workouts and only coming once every few weeks. I said this to see perhaps if there was flexibility on the price - no special privileges - just to see if there was a student membership (for committed individuals without the adequate funding) or something which Mason stated they don't have.
I respect the vision of the gym, however walking in I was unaware as they didn't do a month-to-month membership because they don't post prices on their website.
Overall I'm not dissatisfied with the vision of the gym - I totally get it, MVMT wants committed individuals. What I am dissatisfied with is how the situation was handled.
In all honesty I wouldn't have had a problem paying $135 a month over 3 months ($405 total) which is roughly $15 more - per month - than their competition.
After this experience I am no longer looking to supply MVMT with business (on principle). But in all honesty I guess I can't afford it either at this point in my life lol.
If the owner is reading this and would like some objective advice: -I recommend publishing prices on your website -Train coaches to be more friendly, personable, and skillful when discussing memberships with prospective customers even after coaching or an intense workout. -Consider a student membership
I wish MVMT success in the future - however I won't be...
Read moreMy husband and I found this gym when we moved to Denton 2 years ago. I called the number listed to ask a few questions and was pleasantly surprised when the owner, Jason, called me back personally. We had a great chat and made sure to answer all of my questions fully and didn't make me feel rushed at all. My free intro class was coached by Chloe. She was very welcoming and so were the other members. Chloe did (and always does) a great job teaching each movement and proving effective cues all while keeping a fun and upbeat vibe! My husband and I have been members for 2 years now and it's safe to say it was the best decision we could have made. Not only did we find a great, safe, and fun place to workout, we have met some of our best friends which has made Denton feel like home faster than we could have ever expected.
Jason and Molly have since moved the gym to a bigger and better location and as a member I feel super spoiled every time I walk in. The equipment is well maintained and there is plenty of space to workout without bumping into fellow athletes.
They have adjusted SO well to accommodating new safety standards due to COVID-19. Each athlete is able to workout in a designated area safely spaced from others. They also added several new programs that can be done at home for those who still do not feel safe.
Jason and Molly are constantly evaluating how they can add more value to their members and take feedback to heart.
If you're looking for a great gym, quality coaches, and an inclusive community, then you will love...
Read moreI was referred to the gym by a friend. I had not stepped inside a gym in years and had zero CrossFit experience. My initial motivation was just to commit to work on getting active again since I have 3 young children to keep up with and set an example for. I was nervous to try something so far outside of my comfort zone. Now, almost a year later, I can’t imagine my life week-to-week without going to the MVMT Lab. I am hooked on the supportive environment that the coaches and community alike foster for all of the members there. The workouts have really challenged me physically, but also mentally, and I always show up knowing that the coaches will guide me to the best options for my skill level, help me get better as an athlete and that my friends there will encourage me and applaud my person achievements. I have not had a gym or fitness experience like the one I am getting at the MVMT Lab where I have made the time to go workout there a priority in my life. I’m so thankful I took my friend’s advice to start and feel enriched for having met everyone there and becoming a part of...
