Okay so first impressions?? I truly don't have words. Like honestly. I'm speechless trying to figure out how to describe the culinary rollercoaster I just went on and I have no idea what to say. When I tell y'all this is THE BEST BURGER I'VE HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE?!?!?! IT IS NO EXAGGERATION. I've been wanting to try their Birria Burger for awhile, but it's a pop up item that's only on the menu sometimes. For whatever reason I thought about it today and lo and behold, they were selling it. So I hopped in the car and made that journey to Denton, which took an awhile, but it was absolutely worth every mile!
I knew the burger was going to be good, but honestly, nothing could have prepared me for HOW good. I think the part that blew me away the most was how strong each part of the meal was, individually. The Birria meat is an insane blend of short ribs, chuck, bone marrow, and oxtails, then come the two smashed patties, with mozzarella cheese, pickled onions, a tostada, guacamole, and herb crema. EVERY INGREDIENT CAME CORRECT FROM TOP TO BOTTOM!!
The bun?? Perfectly soft and buttery with a slight toasted crunch. The Guacamole?? TOP TIER, SUPER FRESH. Could EASILY be served on its own with chips and be one of the best guac's you've ever had!! Birria meat?? OUT OF THIS WORLD. BURGER?!?!? PERFECTLY COOKED AND SO WELL SEASONED!!! HERB CREMA?? INCREDIBLE!! PICKLED ONIONS?!?!? THE PERFECT FINISHING TOUCH. Then we move onto the potatoes and the aioli?? AMAZING!! The potatoes were so crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, the aioli was so well balanced with a slight amount of sweetness and just omg!!
I know I pretty much just wrote an entire book, but these emotions are FRESH and I truly don't know what else to do with myself!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't remember the last time I was this genuinely excited about food. I already have my sister on the way to make the journey to get herself one tonight because it's just THAT GOOD!!
Anyway - TLDR - THEIR BIRRIA BURGER IS THE BEST BURGER ON THE PLANET. I hope this place stays open forever!! I will scream this from the rooftops!! 1000000000000/10 HIGHLY...
Read moreSecond review: It continues to not disappoint. The orange chicken fried sandwich was absolutely mind blowing. I'm a little biased because pickled carrots and slaw are my fave but the crispy potatoes and all??? Perfection. If this was on the menu forever I'd be here twice a week. I need to start running more to make up for it....
Do not let the funky (and delightful!) Little building deceive you. This small place holds BIG things. If you do nothing else, look at my pictures. The clean plates should be enough but if not, heres my two cents: EAT HERE. My god. How there is not a line out the door from the second they open is beyond me. I should have known because Lavan is a phenomenal chef. But let's get down to brass tacks: the meal starts with what appears to be some lovely plated garlicky bread. It's crunchy and light as is its basil aioli partner. The burnt carrots are dressed in chili (oil?) With dapplings of whipped ricotta. Perfectly cooked, not mushy, not crunchy. The gnocchi is toothsome, the pesto is fresh, the broccoli has exactly the right amount of chew. Freshly grated parmesean holds it all together for a perfectly balanced meal. All of this is great dont get me wrong. But the steak and potato gratin? May literally be the best thing that has ever graced my face. The steak is PERFECTLY done. It's an absolute experience. Perfect sear, juicy in the middle, smothered in pan sauce. The king oyster mushrooms are a delightful unique experience thats a far cry from the usual button mushrooms you get in most steakhouses. The potato gratin manages to be both light and comforting at the same time. Maybe this is a lot but it's rare for such a shining star to come to Denton. We WILL be returning to try every part...
Read moreParking was a nightmare. But I’ve been told about this place so many times so I came to check it out FINALLY last night for dinner. I was honestly really looking forward to trying their food. The first thing that kind of shocked me were the prices. But I thought, maybe it’s just deliciously perfect. But you don’t get sat, you don’t get drinks brought to you. You go up to the counter, order, pay, grab your own silverware then get a number and sit down. Like in fast food… so I confused when they asked for a tip. So to not be greedy, even though I’m already spending $19 on a pasta dish so, I tipped. All this person had to do was bring the food… so I’m not letting that get to me cause I’m hearing all the quality experiences that people have had here in my head and I’m optimistic. So my partner and I sit and we have our waters and we wait… and we wait… and we wait… and I’m thinking, this will be extra fresh! And after about 25 min, the food is brought to us. The guy asked us if we need anything. But we’re okay. And I’m just disappointed from the get go. There are literally like 12 noodles and then this slab of chicken Parmesan. The noodles were cold/room temp. And the chicken was delicious don’t get me wrong. But it wasn’t anything that really gave me goosebumps or made me feel like the price was justified. It was just a fried chicken piece with a minimal amount of pasta. I’d say if you’re looking for a very Denton-Italian experience go here? Just don’t expect service for the price of the food. You’re just literally...
