What a fantastic resource this place is, staffed by incredibly generous and skilled people. I had quite an extensive and challenging project: building a complex wheelchair ramp and shower platform for my new apartment. The project required several difficult cuts — two side rails at precise angles and a full-length bevel rip of a 2×12 — all accurate to within 1/8”. James very generously offered his expertise, and in the end, everything was not just accurate to within 1/8”, but within 1/16”. Before finding this place, we were completely stuck. The project required professional-grade tools and skill — a band saw, planer, and circular saw — but no contractor was willing to take it on, and the cuts were far too complex for a big-box store or for us to handle alone. Not only that but we urgently needed the ramp completed so I could safely take a shower. Once we found the Denver Tool Library, though, the work was completed in just a few hours and saved us hundreds of dollars. I can’t say enough how grateful I am that a place like this exists — and to James and everyone here, thank you so much!

I cannot say enough good things about this absolute SANCTUARY. I took the sewing class as someone with 1) zero experience 2) an appetite to challenge myself 3) pick up a new craft and I am still beaming from class. Jackie is the most loving, playful, encouraging and knowledgeable teacher and guide. The class was intimate and really gave everyone space to feel tended to as well as space to explore making mistakes and making joy! Beyond learning through such helpful ways and bonding with those who also attended, you come out with a one of kind badass bag made entirely by you, I couldn’t be more proud of what I sewed together! I quite literally keep saying “I MADE THIS!!” to everyone who asks and every time I look at it. This place is so welcoming. I look forward to being back soon.

This place is amazing! I set out on a quarantine project to build a desk only problem was I had zero tools and live in a very small apartment so buying a whole set was absolutely not an option. I was back and forth to the tool library all summer while I worked through this project and I'm now sitting at a finished desk! This is a great resource for this city to have. I come from a low waste lifestyle so buying things I'll use once isn't my favorite but this is also a great resource if you don't have disposable income for tools. Next projects include: fixing a crack in a cutting board that my dad handmade, making a cook book holder for my mom, and who knows what else! Love this place.

Do not buy a membership at The Denver Tool Library. My wife purchased me a gift membership at the Library, after which I went to their location and redeemed the gift. I subsequently took their safety course, a welding class, and a woodworking class. They were happy to take my money for each class, and I donated a Porter cable sander to the Library. I showed up today to borrow a tool for the first time, and Tyler “couldn’t find” my membership, and refused to let me borrow the $10 crimping tool I was seeking to borrow, and was unfriendly and unhelpful. I even showed her the Tool Library E Mail notifying me of the fact that my spouse had purchased a membership for me, and that wasn’t good enough. The Tool Library’s failure to maintain their records makes my “membership” worthless. I had driven 10 miles through traffic to use my membership, to be treated like I was trying to steal their 30 year old, dirty, crimping tool. The entire experience was infuriating. See Christina’s 1 star review below, regarding her experience with the front desk staff at The Library. EDIT: The Assertion that my membership is over 1 year old made in the response below is FALSE. My spouse bought the gift on June 27, 2024 and I activated the membership on August 26, 2024, when I took their mandatory shop safety course. Today is...

If you’re inexperienced with tools and just coming to rent some to teach yourself how to do a DIY project, I’d think again. I thought this would be an amazing place, but I had a poor experience beginning to end. The people that work here (that I encountered during pick up) are not knowledgeable in the tools or helping guide you to the best ones for certain projects. I really was questioning why they work there…it didn’t make any sense. I ended up just standing there for an hour looking stuff up on Google. I have genuinely had more help at Home Depot/Lowe’s than here (maybe it really is worth the higher cost). I’m also a small person and a lot of these tools are very large and heavy. Not once did anyone offer to help me carry any of them or hold the door open. I thought this would be community members helping one another out, but instead I just felt lost and not helped in any way. If you know what you’re doing with tools, then this is probably the place for you. If you’re a newbie and learning, I’d reconsider...
