As a former founder of Hampden Street Antique store I am always referring people to this store, but after my experience yesterday day, I will no longer do so, as the integrity that this store once offered is gone. I will also no longer shop your store nor will my husband who was mislead and lied to when he purchased items on December 7th. He buys my Christmas gift there every year and this is the last.
He specifically asked if the earrings he purchased from your vendor #80 in the back Eastern corner were indeed sterling and he was assured there were. The receipt indicates they are, but I cannot wear metal that isn't sterling, my ears will get majorly infected and I know sterling. You shouldn't have people speak on behalf of the vendor if the info given is going to be incorrect. The earrings are not marked and as a sterling collector for 30 years and online vendor I know sterling when I see it. Karl told me that he couldn't just take me word for it. He was so rude that I'm shocked you've picked him to represent this once fine establishment. I could not believe it.
I will have the jewelry appraised, and add another review, indicating just how much I was ripped off but these scam artists.
Hampden Street has lost its integrity and sells items that are mismarked and misleading, and partakes in deceptive business practices. Hampden Street has no problem lying to you in order to get a sale, and then if you call them out for it, they'll tell you they'll refund your money, and then when you get there, they'll they've already paid the vendor so you're out of luck unless you want something equally misleading out of the same booth.
How about instead you address the vendor and tell her she has to mark items correctly?
The jewelry from vendor 80 was marked as sterling silver and fire opal, but these earrings are neither sterling nor are the opals, stones.
I was initially told by Lonnie that I could exchange it for something else somewhere else in the store and I was fine with that, but then Karl stepped in and told me that I could only shop vendor 80.
When we owned the store, had a vendor mismarked and misrepresented an item and claimed it as one thing when it was another, we would have refunded the clients money and then dealt with the vendor. Integrity is everything in the antique business, and selling jewelry that is fake and marking it as real is fraud.
According to the Federal Trade commission it's considered unfair or deceptive to misrepresent a product contains any previous metal, including silver, unless it is indeed pure silver. It's also deceptive to mark a stone as opal when it's clearly plastic.
I asked for a refund and was refused, and told I had to shop and booth that had already misrepresented itself, so if you plan on purchasing something here and it's mismarked and misrepresented, be warned, they...
Read moreSaturday, 8/24/2024 I went into this store for the first time. They have too much stuff and it’s too unorganized. It was overwhelming and I decided to leave without getting anything. I walked up to the front to hear the woman at the register accusing me of putting things in my purse while I looked around. She didn’t know I was right there. I am an honest person and being accused falsely to her coworker and in front of a customer who was at the register. I was deeply hurt by this woman slandering me, especially when she didn’t say anything to my face about it. People need to be kind. I even went close to her and made small talk, so I could take the water bottle out of my purse that she said was one of the items from the store. There’s nothing worse than being accused falsely, and I will never return...
Read moreI highly recommend shopping here. I’ve been here many times over the years; I’ve always had a great experience, pleasant staff and tons of neat stuff (I’ve never left empty-handed). Today was especially noteworthy. We had several people in our party and we had quite a few similar objects. Long story short…two of us got charged for the same item. We didn’t notice for awhile, and I didn’t get a receipt, but we went back to try and get a refund anyways. Karl was awesome, he refunded the money to one of us with no attitude or arguments. We expected to have to take everything back to prove our point, but Karl was so kind. Every time we come here there is a woman (I believe her name is Trudy) who is so helpful and friendly, and she always wraps everything carefully. The staff here is...
