We regret purchasing furniture at Macy's.
We paid thousands and thousands for furniture that we knew might not be worth the money but we wanted the peace of mind and good customer service we assumed we'd get from a major department store. We'd heard horror stories about other cheaper furniture stores and we knew we didn't have the time to deal with those hassles, which we figured we'd avoid by shopping at Macy's.
Wrong.
Our story is too long and tedious to recount here, but the highlights include: missing furniture, damaged furniture, deliveries that never happened, and an awful computerized customer service system that makes it nearly impossible to talk to someone who has the power to help you. Three months, $5,000 and countless hours of wasted time later -- including missed days of work spent waiting for deliveries that never happened -- we finally just agreed to keep our damaged furniture at a discount price. It wasn't enough of a discount to make all this trouble worthwhile, but I was just too worn down to keep waiting for delivery trucks that never arrived or brought more damaged goods.
I should mention that two people in this long, convoluted process tried to be helpful, but the vast majority of those we encountered were unwilling or unable to do anything other than kick us back to the computer system. The Macy's furniture delivery system seems designed to make the delivery and complaints process as difficult as possible so customers just accept damaged or missing items rather than go to the trouble of getting them replaced. I'm honestly not sure how Macy's stays in business operating this way.
What I do know is this: I don't plan to buy Macy's furniture again. We'd be better off buying used from Craig's List. At least we could see the damage before we bought it, have a real conversation with a real person about when and how we could get the furniture to our home and, if we wound up stuck with damaged furniture, at least we'd know we'd gotten...
Read moreI rarely leave reviews, but Macy's certainly deserves this review. I shop from Macy's once in a while. And today I had the worst shopping experience of my life. I got 2 t-shirts for my wife that was on sale. When my wife tried them at home, we realized that they do not fit. We went to store to replace them, but a manager (at West County Mall Macy's ) name Francie or something tells me that this was a final sale and cannot let me replace it. The t-shirts together cost about $10. I objected saying nowhere it says it cant be return, she referred me to the receipt for the hidden text on the receipt indicating a no return policy on final sales. This was stupid. Nobody reads the receipt details. I really don't care about the $10 but the customer experience and the managers behaviors' was so bad I had to call their customer service number. I called, after 5 minutes, somebody answered. I told them that I want to make a complain, after few minutes they said they will transfer me to a manager. After waiting 10 minutes somebody (who is not a manager) in the credit department responded. He said he can help me, ask me simple verification questions and putting me on waits. After 30 minutes of talking on the phone, he said okay I will transfer your complain to the department. I said you have not asked me about what was wrong yet, he said he filled out a general complain form. It was basically useless. For a $10 t-shirt I spent 30 minutes on the phone, driving 20 miles to and from Macy's. I think this was the first time ever, I had issues returning anything ever. Macy's just have the worst customer service.
Just use Amazon or any other online stores or other local stores that are known to treat their customers better. Macys' with their inflated prices and worst customer service is not worth your time. Your money is better...
Read moreThe rudest customer service ever! Eight months ago I spent $3000 on a gorgeous pillow top mattress set.To protect it I also bought a $200 mattress pad along with an expensive warranty. The warranty says you can if you spill something and mattress pad doesn't protect mattress they will replace mattress. Simple enough. 8 months later I'm spread out doing work on my bed and Tucker, my cat, jumps up and knocked over my cup of coffee. I was shocked that it went right through mattress pad and onto my beautiful mattress! I called about my warranty and Macys (conveniently) doesn't carry that mattress anymore, so instead they will: Give me $600 Come out to my home to pick up my mattress & take it away I was incredulous! I asked how I was sopposed to buy another $3000 mattress with $600? It was 8 months old! Their answer? Yawn. Take it or leave it.
What they are banking on is people will keep their expensive mattress even if coffee spilled on it rather than lose it for 20% of what they paid. So if you look at it like that, then this WorryNoMore warranty is a money making...scam. I went back and read the microscopic print on my warranty and sure enough they go right into "if we no longer carry that brand of mattress you bought under warranty"... it is their perogative to settle with a monetary amount. A long time ago, a salesman told me that dept. stores routinely change up the names on the mattresses so people don't realize their mattress is still being sold-under a new name. Has anyone else had similar problem? Any advice as to...
