We recently purchased a lawn mower. I want to preface that I have been a loyal customer for over 40 years. When I brought the lawn mower home, the grass clippings were all over the place, like the bag was not secured tightly enough. I worked on it a bit the next day, with the same results. So I decided to go back to the store and ask for an exchange. Here is where it got bad. The manager instantly got irate and started to shame me. He then proceeded to take the lawn mower to the small grass patch in front of the mall and showed me that there is nothing wrong with the lawn mower. I was so embarrassed and appalled at his behavior. When we got back into the store, I simply asked for a different lawn mower. The manager refused and gave me my money back and said I am no longer welcome in the store. The entire time, the manager was extremely rude and condescending Seriously, because I had an issue with an item I purchased from his store. I couldn't believe this happened to me. I took my money and went to Runnings. We are constantly told to support local businesses, but this is the kind of customer service this guy is going to offer. Very sad, I don't he will be in business in a year with this attitude. I am planning on reaching out to Ace Hardware corporate, so they know who is representing...
Read moreNewby's Ace -- like Ace Hardware stores everywhere -- is a bit more expensive than big box hardware competitors. You don't shop here for the price, though; you shop Ace for the knowledgeable staff and convenience of finding what you want right away.
As far as prices, I'd estimate that you can expect to pay 20-30% more at any Ace Hardware compared to, say, Menard's or Wal-Mart. That's not necessarily a fair comparison though, as the quality of products isn't always the same, though it's easy to compare apples-to-apples on certain name brand items.
Newby's Ace has a propane exchange rack out front, though I've had a couple faulty tank valves through the exchange. They've always been great about accepting the tank back for a new one though.
I did once have a challenging time finding someone to help me with a bigger purchase, but it turned out that a truck shipment had arrived and the staff was busy unloading it on a deadline. Considering 99% of my visits to Newby's Ace has been nothing but spectacular, it's hard not to just shrug that off (and so I did).
Good people work here, and I hope they stick around for...
Read moreI’d give zero if it were available, my wife and I drove an hour to buy paint from Newby’s and got there 45 min before closing. We already knew the color we wanted and the exact paint. The girl took 5 or more minutes trying to find the paint then informed us the manager wouldn’t let her mix the paint as it was too close to closing time. We told her how far we had driven then she informed us after speaking with the manager again that we could find paint at Menards. We left Ace 35 minutes before closing time. Menards was more than happy to sell us 10 gallons of their highest quality paint. Won’t be going back if I have...
