I am so pleased with our kitchen and bath remodel by Hearth and Haven Design. Heather Shurtliff has an artist’s eye, and she understands what makes a house a comfortable home to live in. This is the second project she has designed for us (finishing our basement living space came first). Andrew has a carpenter’s eye, and he does beautiful things with wood.
Our once small and ordinary kitchen now looks like a million dollars, thanks to Heather’s design and to the beautiful cabinets that Heather and Andrew’s cabinet shop made. Here are a few reasons why:
On the appliance wall, Heather designed the cabinets to surround the refrigerator we bought at Home Depot. It all fits so perfectly that our counter-depth KitchenAid looks like a pricey built-in fridge.
We now have a beautiful glass-front cabinet above my husband’s new wet bar in the kitchen. The bottles and glasses look great in the cabinet that has its own lighting system that Andrew took great care to install. What a nice touch!
Heather created a walk-in pantry by converting a closet from the bedroom on the other side of the wall from the kitchen. It may be my favorite place in the house! The cabinet shop built a handsome shelving system that lines one wall with maple-colored shelves that look great. The design also includes cabinets and a countertop on another wall where I can use my mixer and food processor without having to lug them into the kitchen — another thoughtful design element by Heather. She also chose a rich dark green-blue color for the shelves and cabinets that sets off the warm, white cabinets in the kitchen.
Underneath our peninsula, Heather and the cabinet shop found a way to make useful the unreachable space in the L-shaped corner. The cabinet has a special insert/pull-out section where we store our coffee-making equipment that we slide out and then over to the right to pull out the second section that is hidden in the deep part of the cabinet.
Nice touch: One of the cabinet inserts includes a cool knife holder. My husband says it’s his favorite thing since he hated the way our old knife holder constantly fell over on the countertop and spilled out the knives.
Under our induction cook-top, the cabinet shop figured out that they could build a third drawer right underneath it because the range is shallower than the typical electric range. Voila! — more useful space for potholders and cutting boards. The deep drawers below are perfect for our pots and pans. Everything slides out easily and closes cleanly on its own. And to top it off, the cabinet shop also created a good design for our vent hood that blends in well with our handsome cabinets.
One design touch that makes the whole kitchen a cut above is a floor to ceiling rack that uses some of the walnut we also used for floating shelving. Set against the dark green that echoes the pantry, it looks so rich and gives me a place to display smaller artwork.
All in all, the cabinetry work and the lovely details inside and out are both useful and fabulous looking! I could not more highly recommend Hearth and Haven and their cabinet shop. Beautiful results, and it’s a pleasure to work with such...
Read moreIt was great working with Heather and Andrew! In addition to being a genuinely nice person with impeccable taste, Heather was honest, helpful, and patient. She offered options for her involvement: I could turn it over to her completely, could use part of her plan on my own, or anywhere in between. Once I met with her and received the initial plan, I felt comfortable leaving it to her, which turned out to be a wise choice.
I especially appreciated her flexibility. She was able and willing to work with pieces I couldn’t quite part with (even if they weren’t completely in style) and was creative in incorporating them into the new design.
Andrew is an accomplished woodworker and made a beautiful side table to match one I already had. It’s perfect, he didn’t miss a detail.
There were no surprises when invoice(s) came. Any changes from the original plan (and there weren’t many unless I made them), were discussed ahead of time.
Everything was completed as planned and I’m very happy with the result. It was a great experience. I would happily recommend and call on Heather and...
Read moreWhat an AWESOME House Warming Gift I received a design consultation from Hearth and Haven as a house warming gift. It was such an awesome experience. I didn't know what to expect, but Heather put my heart at ease with her kind spirit and expertise. We discussed what her company offered and then we discussed my ideas and preferences. The experience was so personable. It didn't just end on the day of service. When I received my Design Summary, it was proof that she listened to EVERYTHING i mentioned. She incorporated her passion with creativity and drafted a vision for my home. It was AMAZING. What's even more amazing, is that, I still receive ideas from Heather. If she sees something that would interest me, she doesn't hesitate to share. She welcomes all of my questions. There's a bonus!! Her husband is a carpenter, I'm looking to hire him in the near future :-) Thank YOU Heather, Thank YOU Hearth and Haven Design for making my new home purchase a...
