I must confess that I don't think I could have asked for a better experience buying an engagement/wedding band I had at McCoy's. Living a mile away from Jewelers Row in Chicago, the easy choice to get an engagement ring would have been to go there......but as they say nothing worth having comes easy! (In my case the 3 hr drive!) When I first walked into McCoy' s they made me feel comfortable right off the bat and answered ALL my questions to the point I honestly felt I knew more than some of the jewelers/dealers I encountered on my journey to buy the perfect ring. As I searched, Of course I came across cheaper rings online and dealers near my home city...…. But you know what? The ring I chose was made by someone I (now we) actually know, who made a wax model no one ever had, made a cast no one ever had, set the diamond, made a ring and then polished it to a high shine to produce a ring no one had specific for my fiancé. (still does amazing job when we take it for lifetime cleaning). During my conversations with McCoy's amazing team I felt comfortable that Jonathan understood the significance of his work and I appreciated his unique talent, that would produce a unique ring, and a start new unique journey for my future wife & I. With that said, I was delighted to pay more for something like that, a one of kind ring rather than some ring that was made in the masses by someone/machine I will NEVER meet. I could not recommend McCoy Jewelers more! Firstly, I will admit that I am a very challenging customer. I ask a lot of questions and am always looking for the best value. McCoy has always risen to the challenge to and has been exceptional to work on all fronts. From custom designing and crafting my fiancés’ engagement ring, to offering a thorough orientation to the complicated world of diamonds, and now working to bring to fruition yet another special piece which helps to communicate without the need for words.

When it comes to quality, reliability, and value, McCoy’s is exactly the reason one should lean on a local jeweler. I would discourage anyone from seeking out a chain store that fails to stand behind their products (been there—don’t do it), or an online-only vendor who settles for the most profitable, but not the most ethical, supply chains. Just as with a good tailor, accountant, and an electrician, any self-respecting person ought to build a tried and true relationship with a jeweler that you can depend on when you need them for those big events in your life. McCoy’s will be there, they have been there for me and that’s why I will continue to choose them well into the future.

Finally, in a world where all the incentives are stacked against small main street businesses, it’s important to point out why they matter to communities. My first necklace that I owned was purchased at McCoy Jewelers and I have been wearing it for about six years now. When I started the process of choosing an engagement ring I knew that I would get a quality product at this store. Even though I was living in Cedar Rapids at the time I didn’t want to go anywhere except for McCoy Jewelers. At the very beginning all I had to go with were a few pictures that Kylie (future wife) had given me. Jonathan took those pictures and created a masterpiece. He walked me through many steps of the ring process. He created 3D pictures of the ring so that I could see it before it was made. Jonathan was very easy to work with and was always flexible with my day trips from Cedar Rapids to Dubuque.

After the engagement Kylie and I came back to the store to create her wedding ring. Even though this was about 6 months after I had purchased the engagement ring Jonathan knew me by name. It made me feel valued as a customer, which is important to me when I am investing my time and money. Jonathan was able to create a ring design that Kylie wanted on his first try. He made a mold of the ring so that Kylie could try it on and see how it would fit with the engagement ring.

For the price and quality that McCoy Jewelers offers I don’t know why you would consider going anywhere else. I am sure that you could find jewelry that is slightly cheaper at a large chain jewelry store, but you will not leave with the full confidence that you have a piece of jewelry that will last.
