Tumbleweeds — Local services in East Lyme

Tumbleweeds is a long-time staple of Niantic and such a fantastic place to be on Main street after all these years. I grew up spending summers in Black Point as a kid and used to ride my bike over to Tumbleweeds to poke through the music and stuff. It has been a family owned business for 50 years now and the gentleman who started it was an awesome human, he is was a major factor in my love of good music to this day. His daughter now owns and runs it and is keeping this fantastic place alive and well. They have an amazing record selection and more. I popped in recently with my daughter after years away and was so happy that it’s still there and still the same. With how much things change and get taken over by major corporations, It’s so important that locally-owned places like this are around and still doing their thing after so many years. Great store! Hands down all around wonderful experience. Front room scented with incense flavors of all kinds, from Niantic t-shirts to hippie funky threads, such a variety to choose from. And the back record room is also where it's at in terms of a balanced cross-section of genres from pop/rock to jazz of mainly used vinyl records. As you travel to the back side of the store chock full of LPs, there are cassettes on the wall and used CD racks of several different genres as well. Great nuggets to be found within this treasure trove LPs, great steals and it's fairly priced too. Staff there are courteous and informative about the clothing to the music. Been a local customer for at least a decade and i keep coming back for more! Customer service here was AWFUL. They make you feel extremely unwelcome, following you around and treating you like a criminal when you’ve done nothing wrong. They accused my friend of stealing without any proof, hounding and threatening her when she had been nothing but a loyal customer. They attempted to intimidate her into providing them with additional funds, with no proof of ANY wrongdoing whatsoever. Even after my friend produced proof of purchase, they continued to talk negatively to her and neglected to offer any sort of apology. They are extremely RUDE, pretentious, and unkind. They care about making money, and little else. Don’t be fooled by the outward appearance of this place, the inside is horrible.
