We were pleasantly surprised by this brewery. It is in a very nice setting with a garden center so the outdoor space is very pretty and a nice place to sit and relax. We discovered that we were sitting next to the brewer at the bar after we asked the bartender a few questions and she referred us to him. Personally, I evaluate beer based on a few criteria: basic cleanliness (are the lines, glasses, etc clean & and is the beer a "clean" brew w/o off flavors) CHECK; Is the beer a good, drinkable representation of its type (even if the type isn't my favorite which is why i'm not rating individual beers here as ymmv per beer) CHECK; Does the beer represent its location, climate, region well (as opposed to trying to be a copycat of a popular style from another area?) CHECK; Is the beer remarkable, exceptional, noteworthy? Maybe not, but the very best breweries are few and far between. However, as a good, clean, very drinkable and appropriate for the climate and location, I rate the brewery well. As for value, it's in an expensive location so while paying NYC prices is a bit galling, it's understandable and won't affect my rating. Enjoyable and recommended, I look forward to a...
Read moreBad Martha has been one of our frequent stops when travel to the Vineyard. It’s been quite a few years since we stumbled upon what was a new solid wood construction barn nestled just on the outskirts of downtown Edgartown. Today it still brings joy to settle up with a cold local brewed beer.
The structure is immediately adjacent to a local nursery where the scenery is that of an eclectic garden with plant-life just surrounding the quaint patio where both locals & tourist will gather outside to chill & have a refreshing beverage. What a relaxing afternoon or evening to join family & friends.
The beer selection is often a rotational effort that may boast a Pale Ale, Helles, Stout, Porter, or even something a bit more experimental. Typically about 7-10 variations or so to choose from & on visit 7/6/2021 they even had a locally sourced ingredient, house made strawberry mint seltzer at 6.4 ABV on tap for light fare. As of recent they have begun to expand their charcuterie & cheese plates snacking to include house made pizza & a variety of luncheon & munching options.
If you find yourself in town stop by, have a beer, & tell-’Em...
Read moreI’m usually a big fan of Bad Martha’s. Yesterday we wanted to stop by for a mid-afternoon beer. When we drove in the lot, a woman at an umbrella stand outside Bad Martha’s came up to our car and proceeded to tell us where to park. We followed what she said only to park and have another woman (employed by Donaroma’s next door) yell at us. It was 2PM on a Monday. The entire parking lot was empty. For reasons that are unclear, Bad Martha’s are blocking their own parking spots in front of their establishment to accommodate the umbrella stand which felt very much like a beach attendant set up. Whatever the need was to orchestrate such a debacle over parking was enough to discourage us entirely. We got back in the car and drove away. It killed the mood entirely.
Maybe post a couple of signs and coordinate with your neighbor? Your customers are trying to honor whatever the arrangement is between you all. Without signage and with contradictory information from your lot attendant person, you can’t expect people to not...
