Store has anything and everything for storage... but based on my experience I would steer clear of Elfa ordering, especially when it is busy. My closet pieces were cut wrong and missing, which can damage walls and cause a lot of repair labor. Their version of "making it right" required going back to the store multiple times to fix something with little to no cost to them, and asking the customer to deal with a smaller, imperfect system in the long run. DIY closet systems, which one has more control of oneself, may be safer and more affordable than the basic ELFA custom closet - both in terms of purchase price, and in terms of less repair and heartache later. I also noticed they include a lot of pieces that a customer does not need in their custom ordering, so if you do purchase, make sure not to open things until you are sure you need them, so that you can return the piles of extra stuff, or you will be paying for things you have to throw in the garbage, or continue to fill a junk drawer with.
A lot of issues could be fixed with Elfa if they just placed better pre-installation instructions to double-check the stores measurements of pieces before starting installation - steps based on the specific design given to the consumer telling the consumer not to start installation until each item has been measured in case of store errors. Then outlining "shelf A should be x inches long" and "installation bar should be x inches long." These must already exist for the store, so I would imagine it should not be hard to craft a sheet of these for the customer. Not only would this sheet make the installation safer and catch errors faster, but it would also show which extra items (screws, clips, coverings etc) were "optional" and could be refused or returned based on consumer preference.
Also a concern - this store is busy. Take care to arrive early when there are fewer people, to avoid excessive contact and...
Read moreI had the the worst retail experience of my life today at the container store in Edina. After spending an hour shopping the store, my family approached the register to check out. We were immediate yelled at to proceed to the checkout even though it appeared people were ahead of us and other customers were blocking the lane. The employee still continued to yell at us to checkout even though we physically couldn’t. Once we pushed though and reached the checkout counter the same employee began to scan my items. She was very short and snippy with us even though we hadn’t done anything wrong. I realized I had set down one of my items accidentally so I tried to have my brother grab another set by the checkout. Unfortunately the set was not the same one so I asked her to set that item aside. She then finished checking my items but could not find my 20% off coupon. I showed her the email and she said that meant nothing without the coupon. I wanted to sign in to check for the coupon. She then said that she was going to freeze my transaction and ask me to step aside because the line had gotten too long. She repeated two more times that if I was going to look for the coupon she was going to freeze my transaction and have me step aside. Even though there wasn’t a long line. The entire time she was very rude to me and people surrounding us started to pay attention. At that point I was so flustered, my infant daughter was getting upset, and I was close to crying so I just gave up and decided to leave without purchasing anything.
I have never been so poorly treated at any store and will never return to the container store because of this experience. She may have been a manager because she was calling over the radio to have other people help at the checkouts. In the future I think I will shop online and I recommend others should do the same. It’s clear that this store does not care about...
Read moreUnbelievably rude people working here. I have never been spoken to or treated this rudely ever as a customer. I waited at the elfa counter and this woman never acknowledged me- the sign said they could be working online for designing so I waited but after 10 minutes I spoke up and she said she was wondering why I was just standing there. I asked her why she didn't ask me if she was wondering and pointed her sign out and said I was trying to be respectful of her work process and asked if someone else could help me and she said go find someone yourself!!!!! So I searched around and found someone who claimed to be a manager and worked there for 16 years who argued with me about the elfa product I purchased. So I asked her to look it up, she made it clear she was reluctant to do that and tada my purchase was there. Then she gave me a hard time about not describing it properly to her. So my product was there but the replacement clips I couldn't obtain? My husband was there last year and got them no problem. But now they only alot a prescribed number upon purchase? You can't tell me that no one ever needs replacement of these plastic clips. So then she told me to zip tie it together. Really?? I paid $800 for this elfa closet to zip tie it together???!!! I was disgusted the way I was treated by rude nasty mean employees. By the way, if anybody needs replacement clips, contact customer service directly and they will send you a package of 20 for free. Any manager particularly an elfa specialist should know that imo. Go elsewhere for organization needs. And Amazon is a fraction of the price of this...
