If I could give 2.5 stars I would. It’s probably fine for someone who’s not super familiar with Indian food/doesn’t like too much spice, but as someone half Indian, I thought things were ‘off’/bland. It’s not the worst I’ve had in the twin cities, but I won’t be back (but I admit to being an Indian food snob). Certainly, the food isn’t good enough for them to justify not having salt and pepper on the table (which I think is only appropriate when the food is amazing). I’d read a couple of reviews prior and I admit that if someone complains their Vindaloo wasn’t spicy enough, and they don’t have an Indian name, then I’m skeptical/my sympathy is with the restaurant as I’ve seen a lot of western people go in and order spicy food then complain it’s too spicy (hence most places asking your spice levels). My problem is the food was often close to right but had something ‘off’; for example, my dal soup was watery, needed salt (which isn’t on the table) and would have benefited from a slice of lemon to squeeze. It looked good, it was close to tasting right but the watery nature killed it - it should have been a little thicker.
Btw I should mention I told my server I’d come back from India recently. Obviously, I didn’t expect the same quality as I can get in India, but usually pointing out my heritage maybe ups the quality of the food. My vegetarian dish was a weird combo of a bit of heat/kick at the end but again oddly bland and a hint watery. The portions were gigantic but the food wasn’t good enough that I’d want to bring it home.
I did give brownie points for a couple of things they did get right: I LOVE when a restaurant actually puts a good load of fresh coriander in food (this got me excited) and I also appreciate the obviously fresh green chutney even if it was a bit sweet (many places use only canned). The ambiance is nice, as is the wine list, and again it’s probably fine if you’re not picky...
Read moreThis was our first time at this place. Firs, the place nasty smell, flies, and food bug everywhere. Second, we were hoping the food is good or the service is super but none of this was good. The food portion was a way small for the price, not fresh, and blood comes from the meat. My mix grill I has a bone in my chicken breast and it brook my tooth eventually.
My son goat meat wasn’t cooked and saucy everywhere, the third plate of chicken skewers full plate of onion and veggies and no chicken only 3 pieces. The chicken tandoori meal was nasty looking and old chicken uncooked. We were hungry and we said NO more this place this is the first and last to come here ( there is more better places in town) .
Finally, we all get stomach issues and my youngest through up ( we all get sick) not to mention the waiters did not server us, as I have to call here every time to get water, this and that without ever her to care and serve us ( she was also rude). Lastly, there charge us $20 service charge when I ask her why? NO answer ( this is ripoff)
So, if you really like Indian food don’t waste your money, health and kids going their ( there is safety and healthy concern about this place) many many Indian places are away BETTER IN SERVICE, FOOD AND BEYOND but NOT this place. We are at the ER now it is about 2:18 am and test...
Read moreOn my way home from Christmas shopping, I decided to stop by Tamarind for dinner. I went into the restaurant and only a few people were seated. No one was there to greet me, so I walked in and asked for a table. The server asked if I was alone and I said "yes." I thanked him and began looking at the menu as this restaurant is new to the neighborhood and I wasn't familiar with their menu. I enjoy Indian cuisine and wanted to support a small business of culture. I sat patiently for 20 mins waiting for my server to return and offer me a glass of water. I watched him walk around and fill other customers with water and bring their food, but never stopped to ask me if I needed anything. I began to wonder why the server was avoiding me as he stood idle by register. Then I realized that I was the only black woman in the room and was being treated as an unwanted guest. I gathered my things walked to the front and informed another server that I was not being waited on and will be leaving. In my 41yrs I have never been neglected service and treated so poorly at a restaurant. It was not only humiliating and degraded, but made to feel like I was being segregated. It was the worst experience I ever had in a restaurant. I give zero stars for zero service. I...
