Horrible Experience - Avoid Hakam Shop in Edison, NJ at All Costs
My recent visit to Hakam Shop on October 3, 2024, around 2 PM was nothing short of a nightmare. I went in with my two young children (ages 4 and 7) to get them a small reward, and the experience was absolutely appalling. As I was about to check out with a polite young man at the register, his coworker, a rude and unprofessional woman, barged in and accused me of trying to buy an item that wasn’t on sale—even though I had picked it from the only 50% off rack in the store.
The item in question was only $2.50, but it’s not about the money—it’s about her unethical behavior and shockingly poor customer service. When I explained that misleading customers like this is borderline illegal, she arrogantly snapped back that it wasn’t. She said that the 50% sign has no items behind it and that it was sold out, I told her, I took the last item behind that sign, yet she won’t allow the sale price. This woman has zero customer service skills, no sense of professionalism, and an absurd sense of entitlement. She even claimed she “just works here” and couldn’t make decisions, yet had no problem upcharging me and nearly refused to sell the items my kids had chosen for the day.
To make matters worse, when I asked for her name, position, or any way to identify her for a complaint, she flat-out refused to provide any information. This blatant lack of accountability and transparency made the situation even more infuriating.
Her attitude was so off-putting that it ruined the entire experience. She treated me like I was in the wrong for calling out the blatant miss-pricing issue. It’s unbelievable that a store would employ someone this rude, untrained, and utterly incompetent. I will never step foot in this store again, and I strongly urge others to avoid this place if they value fair pricing, basic respect, and ethical business practices. This woman rather allow the owners of this store to receive a one star review and even forgo a sale to a customer just so she can feel right and above a customer all over a $1 gain....
Read moreI recently visited Hakam shop and was amazed by the great selection of items available. The shop itself was big and spacious. In addition to the great selection, I was impressed by the affordable prices and the sales/discounted items offered. I was there to look for a gift for my friend and I actually ended up getting something for myself as well! The staff there were incredibly friendly and helpful when I asked them questions and to look for certain products. Overall, I had an excellent experience at Hakam shop and would highly recommend it to anyone. Look forward to visit...
Read moreThis was an Asian American shop that carried a variety of Asian snacks, toiletries, toys, novelty gift items, home decor, and kitchenware, such as pots, pans, eating utensils, and bowls. Most items are knock-offs, so shop carefully.
Hakam(Korean) is similar to Daiso (Japanese).
Sadly, they have now been evicted by the tenant, so I'm not sure if they are coming back. If they do, it's a fun store to visit.
