African American Hair Braiding — Local services in Elizabeth

I have been going here for my braids since 2015 when ever I wanted braids or anything. Last year I went & got Senegalese twist on the top since my back and sides were shaved, LOVED THEM. Went back yesterday after making the appointment LAST MONTH & she was excited that I came. Might I add she does my mom’s hair & a few other people we know because of MY REFERRAL TO HER. I get there tell her I only have $85 BEFORE SITTING IN THE STYLING CHAIR. She said I can’t get box braids or Senegalese twists for that price, so I replied “what can I get done for $85”. She said sit and I’ll do for you. She starts the box braids & says “can you give me $100? I said Okay. More than 3 quarters done, she says “I talked to the GIRLS who are braiding the ends & they said I need to charge you $150-$160 for these.” I said well you told me $100 & that’s what your getting. She grabbed my edges after I specifically said not to. She put so many braids that I can’t even put a scrunchie around or put them into a bun. And the entire time, was talking to the “girls and making fun of me in her language. The one girl was CONSTANTLY on her phone & yanking my hair acting as if she didn’t want to do it. I’m going to be sure to tell my mom and the others I referred to no longer use her services. I’m so disappointed because I never had such bad service with her. Now I have to sit here & have some taken out because of how much they hurt and how heavy they...

This place just ALL TOGETHER SUCKS they don't even deserve 1 star. I had to go back 3 times to still not get what i asked for, even when the owner did it with her "20 years of experience" AND still did it wrong. All I asked for was a few corn rolls in the front and box braids in the back. They Could Not Do That, but they ended up taking so long that I was going to be late for an appointment so I just paid them an left. To make a long story short They would not give me my money back even after F*in up my hair so I chose the simplest style that I could think of an they STILL DID NOT GET IT RIGHT. Their customer service is horrible just like their skills. I thought it waz perfect that their salon is always empty :/. BUT PLEASE DON'T BE FOOLED IT'S ALWAYS EMPTY CAUSE THEY SUCK. When it comes to getting braids they will tell you it will only take 2 or 3 hours THEY ARE LYING it will really take to5- 7 hours. So if you make the mistake of going out of despiration or whatever Clear your day cause your going to be there for a while. AND PLEASE DO NOT PAY THEM IF IT IS NOT EXACTLY...

I got my hair braided in 4 cornrows and asked the lady not to make them too tight because i didnt want any breakage. She did them so tight that the braids were stiff at the bottom, i had red bumps on my edges and the braids were also uneven. They were super bulky! I went back for a refund because i intially asked for someone else to do my hair but the lady insisted on doing my hair. She even said "let me do your hair and if you dont like it,we'll take them off". They still did not give me a refund. I went back after that to rebraid my hair and i asked for the other girl to do it and they were nice but at the bottom some were chunky and some were skinny. I asked her to fix it and she acted like she didn't understand english after we just had a full blown conversation. Then they "fixed it" but they were still uneven. Once again i lost my money!
