Elizabeth Public Library — Attraction in Elizabeth

The place is okay, but the major problem are the bathrooms. they are not only a health concern, but they always flooded with water that created a hazard to slip and fall since the toilets are always clog. The situation have been for the last 15 years but now is out of control. To go and urinated you have to hold your breath because they use bleack as opposed to use a chemical to to kill bacteria. It is hard to really to talk to the director because she is always to busy in her office with meetings that you have to approach when you see her. She do not have a clue of the situation because she do not leave her office and she used the bathroom on the four floor. In top of that they lock the four floor totally so people can not use the bathroom. She run the library against any concern for health of safety concerns that patrons have to go through when they used the bathrooms. Patrons are exposed to unknow bacteria and the danger can slip and fall . I strongly believe that using the proper chemicals can solve the situation. Make sure that the toilet are unclogged in a timely fashion would prevent wet floor and bacteria from human wasted to be on the bathrooms floors. Unfortanally we as parotrons have not right to request how the library should be run. I approach her with the situation and she blame the patrons for the situation and she do not want to solve the problem. Instead she told me that she will close the bathrooms so that patrons would not use because this is a free public facility. I just wonder where the patrons taxes are going. I just want to use the library with out concern for my health and my safety. I hope she could listen and we could make a foundraising to buy the proper chemicals the same that they use in linden library to take care of the issue. I am open to give my donation. I usually try to use the bathroom outside from the library...

Never will I ever go here again. I understand that this "Library" is a public area where all are welcome, but some people should just not be able to come. The last time I went there, which was 7/11/2017 and will be the last time I will go there and I have been telling all my family members and friends to never go here and especially never go here with children. My reason for saying this is that on that day I was on the 2nd floor which is the main floor, on the right side coming in from the entrance doing some studying for SAT and a High School student as well, I encountered and white man, fairly old, dressed with a ripped white T-shirt and ripped purple pants where you could see his underwear. Now the thing that made me most disgusted and made me want to vomit was that he was to the wall where there is a laptop station, literally three feet away from a women on her laptop. This horrible and sick minded man was on his cellular device watching pornography and literally masturbating. I immediately left the "LIBRARY" in disgust and what's even more sad I wanted to tell a security guard, but I happen to find "her" literally in front of the 2nd floor main desk on her phone. The point of a security guard is of course to keep the area safe and do patrols to make sure everything is safe and people are abiding the laws of which everyone is to follow. Also, the bathroom on the first floor is horrifying. It seriously needs to be cleaned every second, its completely unsanitary and smells of death. I believe it's the only bathroom that are to be used by the public. Because of the scarred experience on me from this Public "Library" in Elizabeth I will never come here and advise kids, children, and teens to...

Overall ok. The place is great and has great hours. But...the staff always makes a face like they don't want to be disturbed and don't smile period. For someone like me who doesn't come to libraries often and needs more help with how stuff works, it's a put off. The toilet was clean when I was there but really depends on the hours you are there.

Now the people frequenting there...that's a whole other issue lol It's Elizabeth. Be aware. Mostly people minding their own business. But some are talking to themselves while on a computer and loudly blowing their noses and throwing the snotted tissues everywhere. Some have time to kill and just hang out there being creepy and staring at women working on computers (happened several times).

It's a good idea to bring desinfection wipes with you and wipe down the mouse and desk if you use the internet. It would be nice if they could provide that in winter time at least.

They have free events for kids and in general the place is nice. Don't expect it to be...
